Guest guest
Thanks for posting this – I find the Vitamin D debate so fascinating. I so remember in the 70s (yes I am that old) when practicing as an HV in Southampton where we had a lot of new and Asian immigrants how we needed to keep pushing this and in those days it was one of the things we ticked in our birth books which was the way we collected information! Again I suppose this is something that has got lost with the decline of health visiting alongside the increase in dental carries in young children which was again something we campaigned for and reduced in the 70s. Guest guest
It is grim to think of rickets being a hazard for today's children. I too remember the campaign with Asian parents from 1981. We never thought vit D deficiency would be a problem now, but an old friend has just been diagnosed, despite her liking for holidays in the sun. Anyone know if they still have to fortify some common foods like margarine? H.
