Or do I need to mail order it, If I get a perscription for it?? The boric acid capsules WERE helping me alot, now it seems like it is not. Thank you for the information! peace, hugs, and health. TERRY PS it has improved alot. I watch my diet, but still have some vaginal problems. So, this is something that I can control or get rid of with maintence. I sure hope so!!!! Guest guest
- Terry You should be able to get it with a regular prescription. Make sure your doc writes it for oral nystatin powder. It comes in a dark brown glass jar and needs to be refrigerated after it is opened. Maximum potency is in the first 3 monts but I use mine longer than that. I used it orally once and for the first 2 days felt a great lifting of symptoms. Then they got much worse---a herx. I couldn't tolerate it and backed off. Ihave never had a herx from using it vaginally though. I read about this remedy on a book written specifically about candida problems. I have had this prescription filled at walgreens and CVS pharmacy. I am not sure all pharmacies can get it, but many can. It usually takes a day or two as it is not kept in stock. The downside is that it is very expensive without insurance. If you have insurance you will probalby be ok. I pay $25 and it lasts several months. But with no insurance it is more like $80 or more dollars. Like you, I used boric acid with good success at first but then it quit working. I always do good with the nystatin. Also, Iuse the nystatin cream--is yellow and comes in a tube --on my outer vulvar area when I get redness burning etc. That seems to help. I think the cream is pretty reasonable. It must be mild because it never irritates me. Another thing is getting a tube of estrace estrogen cream. You apply a small amount to the vulvar area either once or twice a day. This is on the website I gave you. ESTrogen thickens and strengthens the fragile tissue. This really helps some people. I thought it helped but only use it occasionally now. You have to get a script for the estrace. Hope your problem is better soon. Hugs, kathy -- In , " dimonds68 " <Dimonds6881@h...> wrote: > --Hello Kathy, thank you for the info. Guest guest
--Kathy, thank you for the advice. I am going to bring your post to my Dr. (appt. is in 2 weeks), and beg and plead for this stuff.I am also going to bring the book the Yeast Connection with me. I keep asking the doc. for nyastatin or diflucan(which helps me emmensly!), and they are like no. I cannot understand after 4 years of being ill, getting meds is like pulling teeth. I am so Fustrated! hugs and health to you! TERRY - In , " mikat828 " <mikat828@y...> wrote: > - > Terry > You should be able to get it with a regular prescription. Guest guest
terry What kind of doc are you going to? Mine was a gynecologist. After he realized he couldn't help me anymore, he said sure, why not, lets try it. I really do like him as he has a fairly open mind. Nystatin is one of the mildest and safest candida prescriptions out there. A book I had on nystatin said it was safe even for children and people with aids. Just tell your doctor that nothing else has helped, that this is safe and you want to try it. The reason this book recommended it was because it said that it often helped when women could not tolerate the regular meds. Until I developed vulvadynia I was fine with the regularly prescribed meds for yeast infections. I always have a low level of yeast vaginally. It is gotten somewhat better over the years as my immune system has improved. The thing is that many doctors think you shouldn't have a problem unless they see a raging yeast infection because many women have low level yeast and it doesn't bother them. But for women who develop hypersenstitivity-- as in fibromyalgia and vulvadynia--even a very low level of yeast causes alot of discomfort. By low, I mean that you can barely, if at all, tell that yeast is present. You don't have to have a thick white discharge. The most obvious symptom would be redness, irritation, swelling, etc. The name of the prescription manufacturer is Paddock and the bottle says 150,000,000 units on it. This is what you want. Sometimes they get mixed up and order the wrong thing. It must be ORAL NYSTATIN POWDER and it is a yellow powder. You can also use this in an enema for the colon, swish it in your mouth (it tastes terrible) or take it orally. I just use it vaginally 99% of the time. Good luck! Guest guest
--- Kathy, thank you so much. You are a real great help to me. I had a great Gyn, who used to give me the 30 days diflucan, to take for 1 week straight, every month. I used it longer than that, and it was good. BUT he does not take my insurance anymore. He was at least very compassionate, and really tried to help me. I may have to take a visit to him, and see if he will give me the nyastatin. I aske my new MD for it, and she was like...hhhmmmmm.. no. I don't get it! When I go back in Aug. I am going to beg and plead with her. I Hope she helps me. I can't understand. My new GYN. is of no help at all, and last time I went to him, he rolled his eyes, and said, there is nothing wrong with you. I cannot even get respect from a GYN. From my own personal experience, I find the medical community very sad. I hope I get the script! thank you again. have a great day!
