Pam,

Hi, I took xanax for years on and off and the same thing happened to me, I was taking it and it wasnt working anymore. The Dr. told me that you keep needing more of it to work . I have been off it for about 8 months now and only take it if absolutely necessary. At one point I was taking 1mg 3x a day and I was like a zombie they just kept increasing my dose and I had problems getting off it because it is so addicting and you have to wein off of it because you can have serious reactions. I was first given it when I was 18 for panic attacks. I think it can also cause personality changes too. I take magnesium at night now and it seems to really help and also relaxtion tapes. Hope everything else is well.

Xanax is a benzodiazapine, related to valium. Ativan is also addictive,

and should be taken for only short periods of time.

It is so hard to have this disorder and be forced to either not sleep and

go downhill or take something that you know is not good for you. What a

dilemma! It is so hard to go without sleep. I certainly got worse when I

could not sleep.
