Hi Sharon:

If you are not allowed to post your rose petal powder recipe to the list, I

would also love to have it. It sounds wonderful. Never heard of it before

and I'm always looking for something to use my rose powder in.

Thank you,

Jen

Carol,

These black walnut shells are so fine they are almost powder. While someone

wrote in to say they are not of quality for soap I think I will still try

it. As for the egg shells someone also wrote in to say they had to be

sterilized before adding to soap. I do not understand this as soap becomes

very hot when saponifying. Would like to know what others think of the idea

of using the walnut and egg shells. Obviously someone is doing it or I

would not have come across recipes with them in it.

Well, the only recipes using ground roses are for beads (that's where the

term rosary came from) . Unfortunately, I don't have a recipe for

toiletries, but the beads might be nice for decorating or packaging the

final items. Well have to dig the recipes up now.. great... something

else I want to try! LOL I'm getting a lot of those lately....

I would love to have rose powder recipes! (I have lots of the stuff from

my garden from this year... still shocked that I actually got my plants

to bloom so I dried all the roses I could! Now I don't know what to do

with them all.

This recipe is from an old friend of mine.

Body Powder

1/2 to 1 cup white cosmetic grade clay ( kaolin clay )

1 to 2 cups arrowroot powder or cornstarch or a combination of both

essential oil of your choice ( optional )

Lavender and rose flowers ( optional )

1.In a large Bowel, using a wire whisk mix the clay and arrowroot or cornstarch

together. Add essential oil

Because of its absorbent properties, the powder willabsorb far more then you

imagine.

2. If you wish to use herbs in your powder, grind the lavender and roses to a

fine powder using a coffee mill or grinder. Sift, then grind again. They must be

as finely powdered as possible or they will create a gritty feeling. Add herbs

to powder and mix well.

3. Cover the body powder with a porous cloth and let sit for several hours to

dry. Put in shaker containers.

Hope this is what you all are looking for.

God Bless

Sharon :)

Sherry, give it a try but don't give it out to friends until you have tried

it for a while to see how your skin reacts. You never know, it may be

great but I would sure use the shells sparingly because even cornmeal makes

my soap like sandpaper if I use too much. Let us know how it comes out. I

am going to look in my books and see if there is any reference to these

shells and the recommended amounts. Thanks for the info. Carol A2

Regarding dried rose petals, powder, etc. if you go into the

nessence site, there is a victorian rose petal facial scrub and if

you are still wondering what to do with rose petals, how about sleep

pillows, sachets made with organdy so they show through the fabric (I use

pink and dark red petals together and they are beautiful). You can also

use them to make a " pomander " type fragrance ball, etc. I buy the petals

and found out that one pound of rose petals is a lotttttttt of rose petals.

I also grind them into a powder and put them in body powder. Carol A2

Hi!

I have a recipe for the rosary beads from Cunningham's book

Incense,and brews. It is:

1 part fresh rose geranium leaves

2 parts Rose petals - the more fragrant the better. ;)

Rose water

Remove white stem from the rose petal. Cover the petals and leaves with rose

water in a nonmetallic pan. Simmer covered for 30 mins. Ensure that the

mixture doesn't actually boil. Turn off the heat and let soak until the next

day. Repeat this procedure for three days in all, adding rose water when

necessary. On the last day squeeze out all the water until you have a

fragrant mess. There mixture should be dry enough to hold it's shape. form

into beads. Push a large needle or stiff wire through each and hang to dry.

They will be black and not very pretty. but fragrant!! ;)
