Hi Esther,

Crothix is actually a product from Croda Inc. I don't know of anyone else

that carries it in small quantities other than me?? It comes in pastilles,

like emulsifying wax, and you heat it until it melts. It would be heated

with the surfactants or the liquid soap or the oils that you are using. A

little goes a long way. You only need .5-2% to thicken. Let me know if you

need any more info.

Angie,

Do you use it to thicken anything, or just soap?

Hi,

The Crothix-Conditioning Thickener was created to thicken surfactant

systems---like shampoos and body wash--and liquid soap. It really isn't

designed to work in anything else.

Thanks Angie. There certainly a lot of tools out there for us that we never

know about if someone like you doesn't tell us. I appreciate you.

Hi Angie, could you tell me how to use crothix in a natural liquid

soap? I have been doing some experimenting with it for a while

looking for a thickener for liquid soap and I have had no luck. I

tried using it by melting it in water, but that was a disaster. Then

I tried melting it in the actual liquid soap and there was a white

layer of goo on top. I had come to the conclusion that it just will

not work due to the high ph of natural liquid soap, but maybe I have

missed something.

Thanks for any help,

Pat

Hi Esther,

The thickener (crothix) worked great in the liquid soap that I have. I did

not make it, it is one that I purchased from a company quite a while back. I

don't like liquid soap, so don't make it, use it or sell it, but the

thickener DID work beautiful in it. Pat, on this list has had problems with

using it to thicken her soap. Probably the pH is too high for the thickener

to be effective?? So, I am thinking it depends on the particular soap. It

is relatively inexpensive---perhaps you would want to go to my site and look

under thickeners. I don't want to violate our list rules, so if anyone wants

to discuss my selling the thickener, let's go private email--ok?:)
