Guest guest
If CA is providing any example to the rest of the nation, I would say that power deregulation is dead. The citizens of CA were told that, like the phone companies, deregulating power would reduce the rates, which had been slowly rising. Since phone rates dropped dramatically, although much of it had to do with new and improved methods of providing service, most of us went along for the ride. Unfortunately, greed took over and we are in a bad situation which could, if not gotten under control, affect the entire world. What amazes me is that the people who provide power don't seem to have the slightest idea that if they wreck the economy, they, too, will suffer. After all, they live here. Are they so greedy that they can't see past their wallets? Of course, as citizens, we are spoiled rotten. I doubt that anyone on the list would be willing to give up all their electronic gadgets. On the other hand, those of us in the iron game could still train since what we used doesn't require electricity. I've trained by candlelight a couple of times when the power was out. Rather nice, actually. In fact, lack of electricity would certainly improve the atmosphere in most commercial gyms because their boom boxes and TV's wouldn't work! Guest guest
Rosemary: Just curious: Why doesn't California build more power plants and increase the transmission capability, could this possibly be partially caused by an over zealous environmental lobby? We down in Texas have come up with a way to clean our air, which the liberal media declared to be the worst in the US during the last Presidential election. I am personally in favor of setting up custody transfer metering skids at the Texas border and taxing at a rate of $2.00 to $3.00 per gallon, all of the petroleum products, (let's see about 85% to 90% of the products used in the US) and use the money to clean up our air to the liberal left's standards. Wouldn't that make everyone happier. Joe Littleton Houston, TX Farm Fed and Deregulation If CA is providing any example to the rest of the nation, I would say that power deregulation is dead.
