Guest guest
Hi All, I was just reading that a study published in Diabetologia, found that thiamine concentration in blood plasma was decreased 75 percent in type 2 diabetic patients. The researchers found that the decreased plasma thiamine concentration was not due to a deficiency of dietary input of thiamine, but due to a profound increased rate of removal of thiamine from the blood into the urine (15 times normal). I wondered if this mechanism has anything to do with the rate of thiamin deficiency we see in bariatric patients. Does anybody know if thiamin deficiency is more common in bariatric patients with diabetes than without diabetes? ******************************************** Darcie Ellyne, MS, RD, CDE, BC-ADM Palo Alto Medical Foundation 795 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA 94301 ******************************************** 650.853.4998 Attachment: vcard [not shown]
