looking for a place that does metabolism testing and hydrostatic weights (you'd

think harvard would have a tank, but no.) and i can't find ANYTHING.

Metabolic rate

I had my resting metabolic rate tested this morning by the registered

nurse who contracts with the gym. My rate was 1,420 calories burned by

doing nothing but living in a day. She suggested I eat between 1,600 -

1,700 calories to lose weight. I am definitely going to be hungry I

think 1,800 calories seems a good number for me but then again I'm not

losing any weight <I want my cake and eat it too sigh>. She said I was

actually lucky she sees lots of people with only a 900 calorie reading

wow!

I think hunger can depend more on WHAT you eat for your 1600 calories,

rather than how many calories themselves. When I was having bread for

every second meal (wholegrain, but still..) I was always hungry. So I

switched to (for lunch), my protein, plus a fruit, plus a giant leafy

salad, which fills me up and has like 20 calories in it, lol.

I'm not a big salad fan, so I can't always manage to make myself do

this, but I notice that when I do, I have less trouble staying under my

calorie budget as I'm not starving.

Maybe you do this already, but if you don't, perhaps it will help.

She used a machine that had a mask that fit over your mouth and nose and

you layed there and breathed into it with no air escaping a bit

closterphobic. It took about 10 minutes or so. The machine is from the

local hospital where she works. She just contracts with the local

recreation center to do this. I don't know the name of the machine but

it cost me $55 which includes a one hour nutrition session.

I agree I am eating about 35% protein, 40% carbs and 25% fat. I know a

bit short on protein but for me to gag down 35 % is darn good! Today

wasn't too bad but I was a bit closer to 1,800 but I suppose if it keeps

me from cheating it is better to lose slower.
