I noticed a real GHG raise machine at Gold's Gym in Mountain View, CA the other day. I'm talking the real deal with the length and height adjustability as well as the full plate for the feet. This was the first time I had the opportunity to try out this exercise. I love it! Very cool exercise for the posterior kinetic chain. I reviewed Dr. Yessis's description in his Kinesiology of Exercise book and he mentions that the exercise should be done at a moderate rate of speed. Is it appropriate for athletes to perform the concentric movement ballistically so long as proper form can be maintained?

Thanks,

We do recommend that it be done explosively after an athlete has

achieved a certain level of fitness. Dr. Yessis says this will aid an

athlete in being explosive out of the bottom of the squat and other

like movements. As with any exercise, form is everything. An arched

back must be maintained throughout the entire movement. By the way,

there are several other exercises that can be performed on the Yessis

machine that are beneificial as well.
