Hi Gaye,

I'll tell you what I do for one of the things.

I melt my MP in a crock pot...it works great!!!

:-D

Anyway, I have a few questions about them.. I melted my melt and pour in the

microwave.. I had a hard time keeping the soap melted enough to keep the soap

thin.. (does that make sense?? ahhh) I had to keep putting it back in the

microwave for a few minutes to thin it out. Gaye °Ü°

Gaye,

Glad to see someone else is addicted to those darn rose petal soaps.. <G>

I melted my M & P in the microwave and didn't have any trouble with it

hardening on me. You do have to work fast though. I did add EO's to mine and

they smelled YUMMY !!! I have not had any problem with the petals sticking

together in the dish ..I just made sure the petals were totally dry before

putting them in the display dish and they seem fine.

Good luck and I think it's an awesome idea to send some to your daughter...a

little pampering goes a long way when you are far from home :o)

I'll ask her Mel my dear. What exacly is the question? I started making the

flower petal soap for guys and they like them. The only difference is that I

use just the leaves, no flowers, and scent them and name them something

he-manish.

Glitz,

I tried this with both the cheapy flowers from Walmart and the more expensive

silk ones from 's. I hate to sound so un-chic, but I liked the cheapy

ones better. There weren't as many unraveling edges where I cut them as with

the more expensive ones. Good luck and have fun!

Lynn,

You make me think of my daughter who, under her US Air Force uniform, has a

I think it would be a WAY cool idea if we could all send stuff like that to

our female soldiers. Not that I don't completely and thoroughly appreciate

those guys in uniform...the old man was active duty Army for 10 years, and

is back in the Guards and probably on his way to Cuba to guard the bad guys.

But I just think our female soldiers (and I do mean all female military

personnel, not just soldiers) have to give up so much of their femininity

that it would really boost their spirits to get some " girlie " stuff from

back home.

Now I know alot of people would say that it was their choice to do so, and

if they want to be treated equally...blah blah blah. I'm all for equal

treatment in this world, but I'm also for giving someone something special

when they deserve, and believe me, these ladies do!!

Anyone got any suggestions, let me know! Sage, m'darlin', maybe you could

check with your daughter on this one!! Or anyone else out there with a

daughter/mother/sister/aunt/wife in the military!!

Let's put our collective heads together!!

Have a blessed day!

I agree! We really do have to give up a lot of our femininity! I'm a Sgt

in the Canadian military. I've done two tours in Bosnia ( 5 months and 7

months) and six months in Israel. I've found the thing that makes me feel

" womanly " in my combat boots is always having my toe nails painted.

I got my roses cut into single petals. PROBLEM--- some of the petals are

really small. Does it make a difference? I did think maybe I would use the

small petals for christmas presents to my grandchildren ages 5,7,9. Thought

it might make for a very grown up package for the little ones. Does anyone

know how many petals you can get from a 2lb block of soap? Also--can this

soap be reused once melted? Never having done this before I am really

confused. Should I melt half the block and see what I have? All help

appreciated. Thanks Glitz BTW what is the main M & P bought and how does it

come (block, loose, liquid, ect??)

A 2 lb block should coat a lot of petals, no idea how much, but A LOT!

Yes, the soap can be re-melted, however, you may need to add a tiny bit of

water to the base as you re-melt a lot because it does lose moisture each

time it is melted. Add a little 1/2 tsp at a time, after a while you will be

able to judge what is needed.

I would just melt 4 or 6 ozs at a time ( I do mine in a little pyrex bowl)

for the rose petals, as it starts to harden in the bowl, just zap in the mw

another 15 seconds at a time until warm enough to use again.

M & P comes in many size from 1 lb to 50 lb blocks, check out <A

If you go to their soap teacher section, they have lots of good ideas and

recipes on other things you can do with M & P. Good luck,

I would not melt more than 1/4 to l/2 lb.of soap for dipping the petals,

you can always melt more. I would not use the soap for anything but the

petals as you have no idea what could be in the petals such as a finishing

product and dyes. Carol A2

Gaye, I think tiny bottles of shower gel and body wash would be really nice

too. I like to make up small 2 oz. bottles for the shelters, much more

sanitary than solid soap products when sharing a bathroom with others. Just

my thoughts, Carol A2

I too have been buying the cheap $1 per bunch flowers from WalMart.

Something in the back of my mind just wouldn't let me buy the box of

300 petals for $7. So as I was cutting the petals up this weekend I

counted them. Each bunch gave me 100 petals, plus I just tossed the

small center petals (which I didn't count) off into a baggie for

later. I thought I'd make them up and call them Pettie Petals, for

those with smaller hands.

I too could not justify buying the box of petals for $7. Besides the ones I

saw were all one color. This way I can get many more colors to work with.

I also have thought about the smaller petals going for smaller hands like my

grandaughters. I am going to have to figure out how to make a nice grown up

looking package with other things in it for them. Eddie

Hi Glitz,

Two pounds of M & P will make tons of rose petals. Yes, when you are done, you

can still use the soap, just pour it into a mold of a bar of soap or into

something else and let it harden for use again next time. M & P has a lot of

varieties. Some buy it for price, some for ingredients, so it is up to you.

I got some from 's and had some from Snowdrift. The snowdrift stuff

was way better. Good luck and have fun!!

That's a wonderful idea!! I had just suggested that it would be wonderful

if we could make some little girlie care packages for our female military

personnel serving in the hot spots (or anywhere for that matter), and that

maybe your sweet baby girl would have some contacts/addresses/APO boxes that

we could make use of.

But I never thought about using the leaves. OMIGOSH...I had a guy ask me

about hunter's soap the other day. This would be so good for a Father's Day

basket!

But back to the original subject...I would, and I know that probably alot of

us would, like to be able to do something for our men and women in the

military, especially the ones who are you-know-where. HEY BUTCH...you have

any ideas how we might be able to pull this off? I was thinking maybe we

could send a little care package like this:

Rose petal/leaf soaps

Salt/sugar scrubs

Lotions

Anything else y'all can think of!!

C'mon...anybody who has ANY ideas or connections, let's all give this a

shot!!!

WOW, we used to be stationed at Ft. Hood. LOVED it there!!

DUH...my husband is in the Guard's in St. Louis, but he tries to avoid them

when at all possible. I do have some friends at Air Force Base, and

BIGGER DUH...my cousin is the bodyguard/driver for the Secretary of the Air

Force...DUH DUH DUH!!

I'll let ya know what I can find out!

Re: Rose Petal Soap ??

Ya know, I just thought about it, I'm an hour from Ft. Hood. I could

put a call in to them to see if I can find out about sending care

packages to the troops. And we have Camp Mabry here in Austin, even

though they are National Gaurd, I'm sure they probably have a clue

how to get stuff sent over. They send our Gaurdsmen, why not a few

soaps.

What about soap on a rope?
