Guest guest
Eileen, I can relate to the emotional rollercoaster you are going through. I have not only the flag from my dad's funeral but from my brothers as well. A bit of irony for you, my brother was killed in Vietnam on July 4th,1969, he was born on November 11th, 1949, Veterans Day. God bless you as you remember your father and celebrate his life. My Dad died 18 years ago today. My brother, while watching President Reagan's funeral, realized that Mom had never rec'd a flag for Daddy's Army service. (He was in WWII, landing in LeHavre on D-Day +2) He called Rob s, our local Congressman, and it was arranged that the flag that flies over the US Capitol Bldg today will be in his honor. (It gives me goosebumps every time I think of it. I wish I could be there to take a picture...) The flag will be presented to my mother at a later date. Thanks for letting me share that with you. Please take a moment and say a prayer for those who are serving now, many of whom are in harm's way... This is the first year I have been able to smile on this date. Guest guest
Eileen Your letter brought tears to my eyes. I think that is wonderful! Your family must be so proud today. I do pray for all our servicemen and women--they put their lives on the line for us and I can never repay them. Thanks for your sharing your special day with us hugs, kathy -- In , " Eileen Swanson " <sosalines@e...> wrote: > Dear friends, > > I know you will understand if I tell you about something that has NOTHING to do with saline breast implants! Guest guest
Janie How sad. And strange that he died on veterans day and was born on the 4th of july. It makes me think of the movie Born on the Fourth Of July starring tom cruise. It was such a sad movie. Did you ever see it? I think the vietnam war was one of the saddest wars. Our veterans were treated so poorly--they risked their lives and their health only to come home -- those who did--to a country in turmoil and seemingly unappreciative of all they sacrificed. And then the way veterans who are injured or sick are treated is deplorable. I have a nephew who is doing a stint in the VA hospital in ST Louis for his medical degree. He said that their care is horrendous and the conditions are terrible. How we can treat our veterans this way. It makes me so sad. And just yesterday there was an article in our newspaper talking about how the returning soldiers from Iraq who are injured are having to wait an average of 4 months to see if they qualify for any disability. Then it added that fewer than 1 in 10 are actually able to get benefits. Our government has so much money to waste on pork barrel projects and just can't seem to find the money for people who risk their lives for us. IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY!! My nephew was in the army 8 years, and they get paid next to nothing and are closing all of these bases and his 3 year old boy has cerebral palsy because the army was too cheap to pay for a c-section and tried to make his wife deliver with placenta previa because they " felt she would be ok " . And forget suing the army. You can't. Sorry. Didn't mean to go down this path. I just really think our country needs to band together and change the deplorable way our armed forces are treated. Take care Hugs, kathy > > Dear friends, > > I know you will understand if I tell you about something that has NOTHING to do with saline breast implants!
