Do you supply the opti-fast products to your patients. Maybe as part of their "package'? Or how do you do that?

Hi Group,Our hospital is just starting bariatric surgery, and our surgeon would like band patients on a liquid diet 2-4 weeks pre-op. Does anyone have a liquid diet protocol that they would be willing to share? Anne Lietz, RD LDN CDE

We put our patients on a liquid meal replacement 2 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks

post-op. We use New Direction products...about 27 grams of protein, low

carbohydrate for each meal. They are on 3 meal replacements per day...basically

a very low calorie diet.

When they complete the pre-surgery instruction class, they get an order sheet for the Optifast supply and the TrePuree items. They also get to sample the products. At their pre-op appointment, surgery faxes us the patient's choices, we fill the order and they pick it up from up and pay for it after their MD preop appointment. The pre-op appointments are scheduled so that there is (at least) two weeks between that appointment and the day of surgery. Hope that helps. >>> "Dawn A. We use the Unjury Pre-Op Diet for 2 weeks

In the initial class I have them try a sample of Vanilla Unjury mixed with the

Walmart version of Crystal Light (called Sugar Free Orange Early Rise) and I

usually double the water. Mix it ahead of time or the night before and chill

it. It tastes really good. One or our doctors insist they use Unjury, but the

other two docs let them use a different supplement as long as it’s

similar. Check out www.unjury.com.

I drink it mixed as above all the time

myself, just to get in some extra protein.

Hope this helps,

Ours consists of

4-5 Slimfast Low-Carb per day

Along with they can have Zero -calorie beverages: Sugar-free jello, Sugar-free popsicles, crystal lite, low-sodium broth.

They also must drink 64 oz of water/day and take their Multivitamin/Mineral Supplement daily.

Hope this helps!

PS IF they do not tolerate the Slimfast we recommend 100% Whey protein powder with Skim milk or lactose-free milk.

We use Bariatric Advantage (I recommend mixing w/skim or 1% milk rather than water) for 2 meals with protein or fruit for snack(s) and 1 portioned low CHO meal.

Pre-op liquid diet

Hello,

Do your programs require a pre-op liquid diet prior to surgery (1-2 weeks before surgery)? If you do what are you using?

Thanks,ina

Hi ina,

Yes, our program has a 2-week pre-op diet. Our surgeon prefers the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan (which is 5 meal replacements & 1 "Lean & Green" meal which is lean protein and 3 servings of non-starchy vegetables).

Hope this helps!
