Guest guest
We bring in certified trainers (we feel will be good with our patients) to our support group meetings and allow them to do some light group work, hand out information and answer questions. The patients can then coordinate with the trainer if they want to. Otherwise, general exercise guidelines are provided by the doctor and myself. I also recommend they consider hiring an NCAA approved licensed professional credentialed by: American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, Clinic, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Council on Strength and Fitness, National Federation of Professional Trainers. Guest guest
I agree with the NCAA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) recommendation. Many certifying bodies mentioned also have advanced certifications. I currently am certified through ACE (American Council on Exercise) and have the Advanced Health + Specialist Certification. These advanced certifications provide trainers with deeper knowledge for programming clients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic and musculoskeletal medical history. Many of these certifications also address the programming needs for older adults, youth and pre- and post-natal women and obese individuals. I currently conduct the exercise sessions (along with the nutrition consults) at our office and I individualize workouts for patients. Most of the time I will initially start them with resistance tubing/band type of workouts combined with walking/stationary bike until they lose enough weight to become more mobile and increase their fitnes programming accordingly.
