Guest guest
Dust her hair at night with food grade diatomaceous earth and keep it up for at least a week when the first nits would be hatching. DE will not hurt her, you can wash it out in the morning and powder it in again at night. You can also lightly dust her pillow just to be on the safe side. When I was young the treatment was to wash the hair with kerosene and then use a fine toothed comb to comb out the dead lice and nits. You could never quite wash it out so everyone at school knew who had nits and who did not.
Guest guest
I would hate to breath diatomaceous earth for a week, might need to have her sleep with a dust mask.. sean > Dust her hair at night with food grade diatomaceous earth and keep it up > for at least a week when the first nits would be hatching. Guest guest
Thanks for all of the responses. Luckily, I gave her a bath last night and looked thoroughly thru her hair and didn't see a thing. I know what to look for, since I used to do lice screening as a public health nurse. I just didn't know an acceptable treatment if I found something...years ago, I used to recommend RID as I didn't know any better. Guest guest
I used DE for about 15 years or so on the cattle and I still use it in the house, on my cats and chickens. I would fill an ice cream bucket and hand dust 40 cows and calves. I never used a mask. The cattle would dunk their noses in it and eat it all the time. I know the warning about lung damage but I have never had any problems nor did the animals. I appreciate you comments and concerns.
