Wish I'd known what I know now about dietary fats, oils and vitamins about 10

years ago

when I took off time from work and took a temp job down in the Caribbean. That

sun

down there will fry you like bacon if you aren't careful. I was working on

sailboats and

docks and was pretty fearless of the sun. I love the sun, love being in it so

before long my

skin looked like it did when I was a kid in the summer, brown as a berry. I

knew the part

about the sun being overrated as a source of skin cancer and degeneration BUT I

didn't

know the other part, you have to have protective factors.

As a result I did a lot of damage to my skin. Here's how much: I was at a party

about 3

years ago when a friend called me aside and said " Will, you have a malignant

melanoma on

your head! " My knees almost buckled and I turned white as a ghost. Luckily, I

had the

surgery in time to remove it before it reached the fatal 0.75 mm thickness (at

which point

it metastasizes). I've since lost a first cousin in his early fifties to a MM on

his back. He's

dead because of diet and ignoring a growth that he couldn't even see.

In the areas of my body that I really abused in the sun, arms, shoulders, face,

neck and

chest I now have quite a few more moles and growths than ever before. None are

malignant in appearance but I certainly regret what I didn't know.

The three main types of SKIN CANCER are (in increasing order of severity) 1)

BASAL CELL

CARCINOMA 2) SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA and the fatal 3) MALIGNANT MELANOMA.

There are a myriad of other types of more rare tumors and then an assortment of

vegetative growths such as WARTS, MOLES, SEBACEOUS ADENOMAS and others.

I am now using the frozen compressed air technique to remove them and I'll keep

a log

with photos on the FILE about " removing moles at home " on this webpage. So far

it's

working great. I would add, however, that I'm using my own technique partially

because I

don't have health insurance and going to dermatologists is just too expensive

for me now.

YOU, on the other hand, should go to a professional! My doctor, whom I

recommend is

ABSOLUTE MUSTS FOR GOING OUT INTO THE SUN:

1) FORGET MOST SUNSCREENS. See Mercola.com but you need zinc oxide types not the

SPF

brands that you see. The allow the damaging uv to enter you anyway.

2) Watch your OMEGA 6:3 RATIO. I didn't and I paid. This is said to be the #1

causative

factor in getting skin cancer.

3) GET YOUR VITAMIN D- Vitamin D protects us from getting cancer everywhere but

in

particular wherever there are carcinogenic factors. (Ironically, it is sunshine

that gives us

the best source of Vitamin D!)

4) TROPICAL OILS - Yes, these oils like COCONUT and PALM, when in the clean

form,

virgin extracted and nothing added, are what protects the palm trees from the

blazing

tropical sun! Likewise, it will protect us. The natives of these indigenous

areas used to

consume their share of these oils daily but many have adapted to the SAD with no

tropical

oils and all the wrong stuff.

5) PROTECTIVE ANTIOXIDANTS AND POLYPHENOLIC compounds that we get from eating

fresh vegetables, dark leafy greens, pigmented fruits and dried fruits. See

Jerry Brunetti's

cancer DVD for full listings.

6) DON'T SMOKE! Duh. I know that sounds basic but it is true. The same goes for

other

carcinogens and toxic chemicals. This includes pollutants, second-hand smoke and

other

toxins we breathe in, get on our skin, that is in new clothing (especially

black), fabric

softeners, anti-bacterial substances and on and on.

7) AVOID SUNBURNS- No matter what you do above, the sun will burn your skin

causing

aging and possibly cancer. Work up to a base tan and never exceed that. It's

really crucial

for light complexion folks.
