Guest guest
What is a jump squat? -- Gerald Lafon Jump squats are vertical jumps performed with a load on the back. Typically a barbell is used, but I have also seen some use a heavy sandbag. They can be done with a dip or from a static start position. At this load, the subjects are coming up onto their toes but not leaving the ground. Our subjects also performed jump squats at 40 and 65% 1RM and did not have any problems landing safely. These were performed inside a power rack, but one could also use free standing squat racks or jerk boxes and bumper plates, such that the load could be dumped following the explosive concentric phase. Alternatively, one could simply perform the Olympic lifts, or mid thigh pulls, either from the hang or from blocks.
