Re: Selenium, cancer and related book

The exact title and authors of the book Will referred to yesterday

(below) is: MINERALS FOR THE GENETIC CODE by Walters and

Olree. Several of Dr. Olree's presentations at Acres USA

conferences are also available on CD at www.acresusa.com.

Reading this book and hearing Dr. Olree (as well as Dr. Will and

others) makes me painfully aware that trace minerals such as iodine

and selenium are absolute essential for life and health. It also

confirms what most of us already know: our " health " -care system is

not about health at all, and its proponents - whether FDA, USDA,

elected politicians, or practitioners as a whole - don't know what

health and wellness are all about, much less how to achieve and

retain them.

My own own conclusion are that

(1) " Healthcare " reform must start with individuals, not

politicians, practitioners or Washington. The body I now live in is

the only one I''ll ever have! No one else can provide it the care

24/7 it needs except I. No one else can experience the joy and

satisfaction, or pain and suffering resulting from its stewardship or

neglect as I do... and I'd rather enjoy than suffer!

(2) Therefore each individual must first become responsible for his/

her own health, and thus stop looking for " silver bullet " cures from

either the entrenched or alternative/complimentary systems and

discontinue buying into third-party payer programs. Yes, this means

taking financial responsibility as well. Doing so also gives you 100%

choice if and when you need the assistance of genuine wellness

professionals. Every molecule of every cell of every tissue of every

organ or every system of my entire body comes from the food I choose

to eat, the liquids I choose to drink, the air I choose to breath,

and the stuff I choose to put on my skin, my largest organ. This

makes me the gatekeeper and the ultimate one responsible for my health.

(3) " Health comes from the FARM, not the pharmacy " and thus true

national (vs. individual) " healthcare " reform cannot never be

accomplished without industrial ag and food system reform.

(4) The later will take huge efforts and may take a century to

accomplish. By that time you and I won't be around.

(5) Therefore we must NOW do as TFMN is doing: start with educating

ourselves; adopt health-sustaining lifestyle choices in all areas of

life - nutrition, sleep, physical activities, etc.; secure our food

from sources we can trust - small-scale neighboring farmers who, like

us, are struggling to " farm for health " and are swimming against the

conventional stream.

From a historical perspective, less than 60 years ago (when I was a

kid!), we spent 4.5% of our GDP on " healthcare " and 19% on food. Much

of that food was still real food, little was processed, and

industrial ag was just beginning to rear its unhealthy head. Today,

we spend around 19% on " healthcare " (most of which has little to do

with health) and only 8-9% on food (most of which is not food at all,

but factory-made, chemical concoctions with a few ingredients that

might at one time have resembled food).

The moneys that should be going to growers and farmers to enable them

to steward their soils in order to produce real food that can nourish

us and sustain our health is unfortunately now going to

pharmaceutical giants and their " healthcare " minions. We need to

reverse the criminal highjacking of health and farming that has

during the last century brought us to where we are today - one of the

sickest nation in the world that is bankrupting itself to keep sick

people " alive. " - M. Otten
