Guest guest
Amber, Congratulations for being persistent and for trusting your observations and intuitive sense. Sometimes I think being a " warrior mama " is one of the more important things you can do for your kids. I like the UAS Labs brand of probiotics, in capsules for adults it is the DDS Plus one, they also have a kid's formula that is a powder. I've found the powder needs to be mixed with a bit of water so it makes a paste, then add more water or other (unsweetened!) liquid if you want to make it go down easier. If your son was brave, the oil of oregano could help, but most of the products available OTC are really wimpy. North American Herb & Spice brand is the only OTC one I've seen worth using. The one I use for patients is only available through practitioners and it is STRONG. The thing I've seen with a top quality O of O is that the body will rebalance itself without experiencing candida die off. I'm guessing you'll not go the Nystatin or Dyflucan route, the pharmaceutical drugs. They can be VERY hard on the liver and do cause die off which can be miserable. Have you ever used Olive Leaf Extract? I don't know whether it would work for candida, but it wouldn't be so strong (and objectionable) and you might have a better chance of getting it into your son. Eucerine (sp?) Lotion and steroid cream. Mineral Oil and Steroids. I wouldn't do either. I finally got a doctor to hold his horses a minute, PUT AWAY the prescription pad where he was about to write it out for a heavy steroid cream, and take a minute to do a simple SKIN SCRAPE, this was a few days ago. Such a test was deemed " unnecessary " to previous doctors because they were so confident that their prescription would take care of " whatever it is " because there " is no actual cause to eczema " . And they felt that the SIDE EFFECTS were not that big of a deal. I practically had to beg for the skin scrape anyway. The results showed YEAST in my 5 year old's " eczema " . His rash was not horrible, but not getting better- or would get better only to come back later. SO I AM WRITING BECAUSE I started him on PROBIOTICS about a month ago (before the skin test due to suspicion, and his picky eating habits). This little guy CRAVES bread and sugar- His skin has always gotten worse when he eats what he craves. Yeast would make sense because the 'eczema' started when he was young, no too long after a bout of about 15 Ear Infections within a 12 month stretch. Being my first child, I listened to the doc. He was given antibiotic after antibiotic as a baby, and the drugs got stronger and stronger to " take care " of each infection. His poor little system was KNOCKED OUT- if only I knew then what I know now!!! (I finally pulled him out of his bleach and Lysol infested daycare and since he only had two ear infections as a toddler.) Now he is five. He has had Cod Liver Oil on a regular basis for the last couple years. He's been on Juice Plus+ for about 6 months now, and I started him on 1 teaspoon of Primadophilus Children Powder Plus NutraFlora scFOS (the only children's formula at our co-op) about a month ago. He simply refuses any good Kombutcha, Villi, CSY, Kefir, etc- so I'm wondering if I have him on the right supplement for probiotics, and if I am giving the proper dosage (currently the recommended dose per his age) for his condition, or if I should be giving him a bit more??? Those of you with experience in probiotic supplements- I would be very grateful for your input with this situation. I've always done it the food way for myself, so am open to advice on the supplement issue. (Keep in mind, though, that our budget doesn't allow for anything too pricey). Thanks in advance!
