Guest guest
Kathy, Listen I know that everyone with FMS is different but there are def some stregnthening and fat burning exercises I feel can be done with minumum residual effect on your FMS condition. I really want to be a personal trainer and work with all kinds esp people with these illnesses because I feel I am just simply in remission and maybe not even " cured " due to my life style. I have tons of natural endorphions going on in my body that give me so much energy everyday. I am usually just bouncing around off the walls. So I know that you can only do so much when it comes to skin vs fat. If you feel that your gaining fat in your abdominal area, it could be, very possible, that you are. However your description is sounding to me more like a skin issue. If it is related to your stretch marked, C section scar area, then it could be that you have not enough fat under the skin or muscle and the muscle tone decresing could be why your noticing more skin in that area. it is hard for me to tell since I don't know what you even look like. I can tell you that i pretty much am a solid person with a low body fat of 16% you cannot pinch much fat on me at all, but on my lower abdominal area, I don't have a totally flat tummy either, I am only 40, so I imagine if I don't continue to work at it like I am it will worse in another 10 years, that seems natural. If I continue working it, I think I can keep it pretty firm, however, if I get like you said, on my side, or hands and knees, that skin that is there will hang down a bit from having a baby it just is not fair. I know several women that only got one stretch mark, or none, on their bellies, my best friend and work out partner is one, she has natural big boobs and NO STRETCH MARKS on her belly. I don't know what the deal is but, I think it is skin elasticity and genetics. My mom got stretch marks with her first baby and she only gained 20 pounds! can you imagine, however, my mother has the skin of a 59 year old and she is 74 so who knows, my girlfriends mom is only 56 and looks older than my mom in the skin department, lifestyle maybe, sun damage, who knows???? it is all so hard to determine. I know that if you have what I have the only permanent solution is plastic surgery, tummy tuck. Not lipo. However, I have been on the fence with this as I don't know if I really want to do it, I can still wear a bikini if the top of it hits right below my navel , and do i really need a skimpier bikini than that? It sounds fun, but at the same time, it is a big surgery so I just don't know that I want to deal with it all. I think that it might be a good idea for you to find someone to test your body fat. One of those tanita scales is a better way since it can tell the difference between fat and skin, while the calipers (pinch test) doesn't know skin from fat. Other wise it may just be skin and not much you can do other than work the muscles under neathe to get it a bit tighter. I have found with flab if you build the muscle underneathe it looks tighter and better but with excess skin it is harder. I hope this all makes sense. I need to go get ready cause my workout buddy is almost here. hugs and hang in there. In , " mikat828 " <mikat828@y...> wrote: > - > CArrie > Mostly I just walk. Guest guest
Thanks for the input carrie. Can you suggest some things for me to do? Also, I am bummed about the stomach issue. I pretty much thought along time ago I would have to have a tummy tuck just because of the scar and stretch marks. But this other stuff has just happened lately. It seems like it can be a symptom of irritable bowel, menopause, ovarian cancer, and even scleroderma ( of which I feel I have issues with) So it is just a little scary. No alot scary. I made an appt in the middle of october to see a doctor---oh, how I hate to do that!-that specializes in peri and post menopausal women. So I think she will tell me if she thinks I should check further. In the meantime, I want to do whatever I can to make the muscles in my abdomen stronger, so suggest away. I think I must be getting close to menopause--my periods are still regular but I swear my emotions are all over the place. I cry when I read the paper, practically if someone looks at me the wrong way! ANd it is getting worse!! And it seems like I have pms all month. Sometimes I hate being a woman. I really think we got a raw deal!! And my symptoms are definitely getting worse lately. Apparently this time in our lives can make any chronic condition worse. Lovely. I sure could use some prayers. Thanks Blessings, kathy > > > > > I wanted to give a little plug for the tanita > > > > > > weight scale they have at my work. Guest guest
Kathy, the biggest thing you can do for your abdominal area esp at your age (not saying your old) just that at 50 it wil require more work then at 30 ya know what I mean, for me I think core stregnthening is where it is at. The core is your entire abdominal area and it really is imperative that you find things that will stregnthen it, the good news! It does not require allot of money or expensive machines, goody right? I would go out and invest in two things, a pilates tape, get a nice beginner one, Austin has one that is two workouts each 30 minutes long, all about toning and stregnthening the core, it also is a bit of yoga so very relaxing and probably not too hard on your fms. The second thing I would get is a good yoga ball. Go to a sporting goods store and try to find one for your height. You will need to inflate it so if you don't have a little bike tire inflater, ask the store if they have one, the ones the balls come with are very hard to fill the darned things up with, unless of course you have a big strong hubby like mine hee hee. He blew mine up with that crappy lil pump mine came with. They come with a sheet of workouts that are pretty core related, but you may need to buy a little book that has more core exercises in it too. I know of one on line for only 9 bucks. These two things will get your abs as fit as you can for cheap and without much pain. The yoga ball can be really really nice for your butt and thighs too, so it can come in handy, but almost anything you do on it relates to building your core (abdominals) because of the way it requires you to balance on it. Be causious of your lower back, that is my only warning. Go slow on it and be cautious of some moves that might put allot of strain on the lower back. The reason I think this happens at first is because if your abs are weak it makes sense your back would pick up the slack at first until the abs get stronger. Anyhow hopefully these ideas will help you. I know that my abs are supposed to be very strong and " amazing " under all the skin according to Dr Feng who I asked about a tummy tuck when I was there and she said i was a perfect candidate for a tummy tuck once I got well from implants, but she is pricey and to go there for a tummy tuck would be hard, i mean it is a big surgery, scares me, I would trust her but I have no idea how I could afford 2 weeks in Ohio so I doubt I will do it unless I somehow inherit a fortune ha ha. in the meantime I just have to do things the old fashioned way ya know hope this helps honey, and maybe you will eventually need some hormones, I would look into the bio identicals if possible. hugs In , " mikat828 " <mikat828@y...> wrote: > > Thanks for the input carrie. Guest guest
- Thanks for the advice. I am definitely going to get rolling on some simple exercises and work my way up slowly. Some day I might look at the tummy tuck also. But I am afraid to have another surgery at this point. I have heard people who have immune illnesses say that some times surgeries make their progress go backward. I want to be more confident of my wellness first. Health before beauty! I have some questions for anyone reading this post. Has anybody tried the product called Clear from Awareness corp. I ordered it probably 2 years ago and never used it. Or how about Paragone? The curezone site seems to like paragone. I am really thinking about doing a parasite cleanse but am afraid of some of the ingredients. I hear that wormwood can be quite toxic. It is so confusing when trying products because someone will say it is great then someone else says it doesn't work at all and you dont know what to think. I have alot of products that I have neveer or seldom used because I had a reaction--most likely a herx--to it. I still can't even work my nerve up to do a liver cleanse. I am afraid of the epsom salts being too much for me. What ever happened to the idea of people posting things they tried that they thought helped? I think this is a great idea. I also think it would be a great idea to list the things people tried that didn't help. I would be willing to help compile the list but I am not too brilliant at knowing how to display things on a computer. Guest guest
kathy, I agree-health should come first. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, and just start doing some more stomach workouts, like get one of the "Firm " tapes for just the abdoman, I think mine is 25 min long. I do it three times per week. See how much it helps. My main problem in the first place, was harsh expectations on my appearance. it was all about being my best and I did whatever I could to get there,. Starving myself ,getting implants, working out 2 hours a day...It has taken me to get to this point of being so ill, I have let go of it and like you said put health first. I promised God that I would appreciate the real me more, and the body he gave me , imperfections and all- if I could get my health back. I really pleaded. I actually had to get counseling for this, for obsessive body image, you could say, and actually was told to stop working out for a month, and when I did go back I had to tell myself- everyday when I work out, I had a limit- 45 min, and it is for my health first. if I start looking better, it is a plus. It was too discouraging to be so ill, and not lose weight. I am so happy now! heavier than I ever thought Id be (my God Im 5'7 and wear a size 11 now) but ok with it, as I have to get better. And I am loved, by God and my hubby skinny or not. Looking at all our little imperfections, is just silly to me, and too time consuming. I do workout, but let go of the rest. Love you, Re: Kathy just a few thoughts/read this sweetie -Thanks for the advice. I am definitely going to get rolling on somesimple exercises and work my way up slowly. Guest guest
carrie ,you should go into physical therapy. they are the ones that can do what you would like to do! Love julie Re: Kathy just a few thoughts/read this sweetie Kathy,Listen I know that everyone with FMS is different but there are def some stregnthening and fat burning exercises I feel can be done with minumum residual effect on your FMS condition. I really want to be a personal trainer and work with all kinds esp people with these illnesses because I feel I am just simply in remission and maybe not even "cured" due to my life style. It sounds fun, but at the same time, it is a big surgery so I just don't know that I want to deal with it all.I think that it might be a good idea for you to find someone to test your body fat. One of those tanita scales is a better way since it can tell the difference between fat and skin, while the calipers(pinch test) doesn't know skin from fat. Other wise it may just be skin and not much you can do other than work the muscles under neathe to get it a bit tighter. I have found with flab if you build the muscle underneathe it looks tighter and better but with excess skin it is harder.I hope this all makes sense. I need to go get ready cause my workout buddy is almost here.hugs and hang in there. In , "mikat828" <mikat828@y...> wrote:> -> CArrie> Mostly I just walk. Guest guest
Physical therapy would be great, but in Idaho and most states it now requires a masters degree, and I just don't think i can do 7 years of school, full time mind you.
