Guest guest
I've read the archives, but still had some questions about the healthiest water options given some of the latest pollutant issues. Will an RO system take out perchlorates and pharmaceuticals? I would assume so given what I know of the process, but was wondering if they are starting to label this and what I could expect. I understand the pool guy system is not RO. Does this get rid of the above? I assume both will get rid of the other usual suspects: chlorine, flouride, pest/herbicides, other contaminants. But also trace minerals. Is there a do-it-itself system to add those back in, or do we do that manually (OK, this one I remember reading something about so if you hate to repeat yourself, ignore.). Just having a stream of consciousness here... I can't believe we have to think about how to get rocket fuel out of our drinking water.... Thanks in advance. I'm grateful for this group as a resource. .
Guest guest
On this topic, I've heard that reverse osmosis strips minerals from your body when you drink it and that's it's actually better NOT to use reverse osmosis. Anybody know anything about this?
Guest guest
Way back in an Acres, USA magazine there was an article about how to energize water. We did this for years. Distill water [yes it takes all the minerals out] put it in glass gallon jugs and set in the sun. Distilled water is tasteless and nothing can live in it. The article said that after a week to ten days the water becomes energized from the sun and a frog could live in it. We never dropped a frog in but the water did taste good and made marvelous coffee. If anyone in the city decides to try this, I would suggest that you have the distiller set up so that the fumes go outside because chlorine and fluorine gas is more toxic than drinking it. Guest guest
Hi ! I know some people add minerals back in their drinking water. I do not know if this is adequate (anyone know?), but I just make sure we take mineral supplements. I know RO does not = perfect water, but I am feeling that RO is better than otherwise filtered with pharmaceuticals and fluoride in it... Maybe I am wrong though.. Guest guest
There are perchlorates in the water in Woodbury, Cottage Grove and Newport, probably Oakdale too due to 3M runoff. There were people at a city meeting with RO filters, so I am assuming that it does take it out--but I wasn't at the meeting to ask. My question is this: What type of supplement should my family be taking if we are drinking RO water? Is a trace mineral supplement adequate or do we need more than that to make up for what the water is missing? Perhaps a vitamin/mineral supplement with high dosages of all? Maybe Will can comment?? Guest guest
Hi , I like the Nikken water system, they have a number of different options depending on your home situation (own, rent, size, number of people in the house). The Nikken system has a ceramic add-on that is supposed to remove the trace pharmaceuticals in the water. I just found out about this option and will be buying it. If you don't do the whole house system, they have a shower filter that does seem to take out the chlorine. I bought one last summer and had NO itchy, dry skin this year after showers for the first time ever! A really good part of the system is that the final part of the filter is Asian coral that puts the trace minerals back in the water. And the reservoir is made from chitan rather than polycarbonate (petroleum source). The distributor I use is Dennis K. Spader: dkspader@... 720 River Heights Rd, Menomonie, WI 54751, phone-715-232-9310. I know he services a wide area of MN and WI. FYI, I have been researching water filtration systems for at least 30 years. There has been a great improvement in the options available, so we have much better choices than in the past. And it seems that we really need these days.) And for full disclosure, I have no financial connection with Nikken. Guest guest
Given I already have a system due to the state law in MN on fluoride and the MMM chemicals in the water, I'm not planning to replace it. So I am still interested in knowing about the minerals that are recommended that aren't part of a system. Especially some that someone may be familiar with that taste good to kids. Guest guest
Does anybody have experience using the Radiant Life water system? My husband says that Sally Fallon recommends it and we are looking into getting it. I think it is a RO system that automatically puts minerals back into the water.
