Guest guest
AHA! I THOUGHT that headline would grab your attention!!! That was my doctor's response when I told her I had originally planned to replant with saline implants after explantation, until I read about so many complications/sickness from them. She further explained that, due to my symptoms in response to the silicone implants, the saline implant's silicone shell make them not an option for me. She also said a lift was up to me, I wouldn't have to have one, if I didn't want one. She didn't think I'd be that bad without one. Sooooooooo, she definitely was not trying to up my costs of her services. She did show me pictures of women my size who did and did not get lifts after explant. I opted for the lift. I don't want to regret not getting everything done now to help me move on, with NO more breast operations. I also was very blessed by God to NOT have any silicone detected by ultrasound in my maxillary lymph nodes. I have so much scar tissue and calcification in my breasts, it was not possible to detect if the implants are ruptured, or not. She said it appears they are contained within the scar capsules, ruptured or not. She promptly issued a request to my insurance company for coverage for explantation and lift, due to the Class IV contractures, the extensive scar tissue and calcification in both breasts, the disfigurement of the breasts from explantation, and due to the symptoms of pain in the chest, myalgia, numbness/tingling in the arms, dry eyes, etc. None of the staff appeared to have any implants, they were all very normal looking, with the tendancy towards small. The smallest chested of all was the doctor. (I told my husband he has more boobs than she does.)The only signs of an implant in her office was the implanted-looking boob hanging halfway out of her suit, in a model on a magazine cover in the waiting room. My initial consult lasted about 2 hours, with any/all questions answered, with amazing candor. My concerns about being on Vicodin or other hard-hitting pain meds after the operations was answered by " my patients don't usually have pain. " Tylenol was mentioned as an option for any discomfort. She administers a " pain block " to diminish need for pain meds afterwards. My concerns about not staying overnight in a hospital was answered with " Why? You'll be fine. My patients don't usually have any problems. " She cited how many operations she's done and continues to do, with patients typically leaving 2 hours later. Her staff had already told me her patients typically have little to no bruising. Part of that is attributed to the doctor's technique, part of it is due to the special vitamins issued for before and after surgery, along with special dietary guidelines before and after surgery. The doctor is confident, has a good sense of humor, and appears to cover all the bases to totally assist/complete a successful surgery experience. She has the academic records to attest to her being very smart. Apparently she didn't leave her brains at school, but employs them to run a very patient-oriented practice, with unusually high claims of success compared to many. Would I have preferred to have gone to my local PS? Yes. I REALLY like him! He's a LOT cheaper! He's closer to home! He also assured me he'd get all the silicone out. He would remove all intact, if possible, but split the scar capsules to get to the implants, if necessary, and then remove the scar capsules. That's not " en bloc, " per my understanding. He was also going to replace with saline implants and do a lift. He discounts the perils of saline. My new doctor says you cannot do a lift along with a re- plant after explant.....that it will not work properly. If I had been a candidate for replant with her, I would have had to wait about a year for a lift, and would have been even saggier/droopier than present, in the interim, per this doctor. What's the bottom line on all of this? I feel like I have to do what's best for me, regardless of how well I like a doctor. I need the best expertise, not the best personality, to get me out of the mess I'm in. I do thank God for the internet, which allowed me to do the research to find out about my options and this doctor. I also thank Him for the internet, which allowed me to become a part of this group and inherit new sisters, who have showered me with love and understanding during a very scary time in my life. Thanks for reading my post. Love, Annie PS-I noticed there seems to have been a lot of efforts to mend fences and reach out in love this week. I'm really proud to be a part of this group! You are SPECIAL people!!!!
