Preemptive? Here in the great state of Oregon…or reactionary….as in the days of old and workers compensation… Vern Saboe, DC., FACO ACA Delegate for Oregon From: gotobixon@... Hwy 434 Longwood, FL 32750 407-834-2225 Please Act Today: Horrific PIP Bill CS for HB 119C Your Action Needed Today: Horrific PIP Bill CS for HB119C The worst PIP bill seen to date, CS for HB 119 sponsored by Rep. Boyd, is on the agenda for consideration by the House Civil Justice Subcommittee tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 25th, at 8:00am. Please make it a personal priority today to contact members of this committee listed below. This bill creates a PIP system that would be totally based on emergency care. Only those (a) transported by ambulance, ( treated in a hospital by MD, DO, dentist, ARNP or PA, or © admitted to the hospital would be eligible for the $10,000 in benefits. Hospital care must take place within 72 hours of the accident. Only if you have one of these scenarios could you then get “subsequent care” by the same listed providers. No treatment by DC or LMT is allowed. Click here to see a list of the changes this bill would create by shifting from a PIP to an “emergency care system.” This bill would not only be damaging to DC’s and other health care providers who aren’t hospital-based practitioners: It is patently anti-consumer for many reasons. Here are just a few of the obvious flaws that can be mentioned to legislators listed below, who will be considering this bill tomorrow morning: Does nothing to directly attack fraudIn these days of high unemployment, will cause the loss of tens of thousands of jobs (in offices of non-hospital providers) Will lower the quality of health care provided to those injured in auto accidentsWill result in less care for those with injuries, as all benefits will be absorbed in just one ER visit with high-dollar diagnostic costs Shifts care to the most expensive, most chaotic venueWill flood emergency rooms, meaning longer wait time for care for those who are critical and not critical Removes the number one choice of consumers for drugless, conservative care: chiropractic.Removes the least expensive drugless, non-surgical intervention: chiropractic. By removing the number one drugless intervention, will result in even more injured Floridians with dependencies on pain medication, feeding the pill mill problem. Please contact members of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee today to let them know that this is a bad bill that does nothing to directly address fraud in PIP and ask them to vote against it for the reasons outlined above. Other viable options are in play which directly target fraud, including SB 1860 by Senator Negron. CE Requirement for DC’s Certified in Acupuncture to Begin in Next Biennium Florida-licensed DC’s who are certified to practice acupuncture will be required to attain 4 hours (of their total/40 hours of continuing education) per biennium in acupuncture starting with the next licensure biennium, April 1, 2012-March 31, 2014. A rule adopted by the Board of Chiropractic Medicine (BOCM) late in 2011 imposed the new requirement. The FCA has received calls from members due to an incorrect promotion mailed out by a chiropractic college promoting an acupuncture course which misreported that DC’s certified in acupuncture were required to have 12 hours in acupuncture for the current biennium. In order to best serve the profession, courses to meet this new requirement will be added to the class offerings at FCA events for the next licensure biennium. To view the new rule, click here.
