Guest guest
Hi all: This is the second year of Fascial Manipulation in the USA. Last year, Warren Hammer, DC, Stecco, MD and Ann Day, PT (translator of Luigi Stecco's texts into English) along with the FM teaching team from Italy presented the first US courses which saw a great group of DC's learn the work and incorporate it into their practices. This year, seminars are being held in 4 different locations - Las Vegas, Newark, Bethesda and Niagra Falls. I hope 2012 is even more productive in bringing this unique, evidence based, scientifically documented and well researched soft tissue method into the chiropractic community. While I have always done soft tissue in my practice, this is by far the single most efficacious and scientifically grounded soft tissue technique I have found. The fascia is the most ubiquitous tissue in the body. Embryologically, it forms before the nervous, musculoskeletal and visceral systems which all then grow within the framework of the fascia. Research is finding that it is intimately involved in virtually all aspects of bodily function - most notably for our purposes in the apparent feedback, guidance and control of musculoskeletal activity through the rich innervation of proprioceptive nervous tissues embedded in the fascia. The peripheral nerves travel within the fascia, as do blood vessels. Aberrations in the normal functioning of the fascia may be responsible for not only musculoskeletal pain syndromes, but also visceral complaints, articular dysfunctions and possibly joint fixations. FM is not Rolfing or Myofascial Release. It works only with the deep fascia overlying, within and between muscles and around articulations. It is not a cookbook technique, it does not treat everyone the same way. It is a technique that performs pre and post treatment testing with every visit, is tailored specifically to each individual patient's problems and changes with each visit as the body integrates each preceding treatment. It does not look at pre diagnosed conditions but rather seeks the cause of underlying dysfunctions which lead to diagnoses. Every patient treatment is individual and unique, I don't believe I have ever treated two patients the same way, even with similar conditions. The following article is a fascinating look at a shoulder study and gives a good overview of the technique - http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/73770003/902372961/name/Day%20JA,%20Chronic%20shoul\ der%20pain%2009.pdf Day, J.A., et al., Application of Fascial Manipulation & technique in chronic shoulder pain Anatomical basis and clinical implications.
