Guest guest
44 Year old Irish male. June 2005 became extremely ill for several weeks with flu-like symptoms. Worsened over time. Ached from head to foot including between toes; feverish, weak, fatigued, odd sensation of “slipping away”; brain function impaired: could not form sentences. Met a man at the Oregon State Fair who was a rat expert (exterminator?). He suggested that the pt. had Hantavirus “of which there are 4 types”. Previously, construction crews had excavated a field near his home displacing filed rats. Discovered a “construction defect” in his house. Rats made it into house. 2005 Hanta virus news stories broke in Vancouver, Wa. Where a man demolishing a wall was exposed to rat dust succumbed to something 2 weeks later. Patient has requested a test for Hantavirus but doctors don’t want to test because they think it’s old news and he was recovering. JAN 2012 had flare up of symptoms. Steroids helped but eventually exacerbated the problem so he doesn’t take them. Currently: recently on antihistamines which allowed sleep which helped but he slept too much. Currently: painful skin and joints; Pain causes wakeful sleep unless he takes antihistamines; Energy is improving; Mental acuity is good (although he’s Irish so he may be unable to admit that he isn’t brilliant!) Other systems unremarkable (he may not know what normal is- who does? ) Another friend mentioned toxoplasmosis which is carried by....lawyers! HAHA. Actually it’s carried by cats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasmosis I plan to help him get the testing for Hanta virus and intervene with some wellness approaches to enhance his immune system. I know; quaint. Ideas or comments are certainly welcome. -- E. Abrahamson, D.C.
