Guest guest
Lyndon. The thing I noticed when the Take Shape For Life group was talking is the committee Co-chair couldn't get them to explain the cost. They kept saying that there was no charge for their service, but if the participant wanted to, they could purchase products from them. My daughter used them and had great results and I think the life coach is a great idea. But, it costs over $300 per month. They are right when the say they don't charge for the life coach part, but you have to buy their food products in order to start the program. From what I understand of the program. Mitch Greenlick didn't give them the grilling he gave Dave McTeague when he was having trouble getting the answer he wanted, but did try several times. Thanks for reducing the testimony to a more manageable time frame. Apparently due to the Governor's mandate to change the status quo when it comes to healthcare, the legislature seems to now be open to options that will lower health costs and risk factors, and were surprisingly favorable toward the "Take Shape For Life" program, which is the MLM component of MediFast. Here is the excerpt of that portion of the hearing, which is definitely worth listening to: "Take Shape For Life" testimony To my dismay, the testimony for the "Take Shape For Life" program was given predominately by lay persons and some members of the medical profession, but not by chiropractors. If we are going to lead the charge to improve the health of Oregonians and ultimately all Americans, we need to start offering better solutions for general fitness and weight management in addition to good chiropractic care. That's where the EvolvHealth e84 Wellness Challenge comes in, which, in my opinion, is a better program than the "Take Shape For Life" system, since it not only targets weight loss (e84 BURN) but also people who want to increase their fitness (e84 FUEL) and athletes who want to take it to the next level (e84 EDGE). And the great thing about the EvolvHealth e84 Challenge is that the Chief Science Officer behind it is Dr. Anne Bodak , a chiropractor! Her goal is to get 8.4 million Americans to complete an 84-day wellness challenge over the next 8.4 years and thereby significantly reduce our healthcare costs. But since we don't have a lot of time in our offices to promote and manage weight-loss programs, etc., it's great to finally have someone come up with a cost-effective, evidence-based (Vern!), as well as Internet-based, wellness program that simply entails referring patients to a web site. As patients participate in the program and begin purchasing products, just like the "Take Shape For Life" representatives revealed to the legislators as to how they get paid, EvolvHealth rewards you by paying the difference between the wholesale price and the retail cost. Very simple, yet highly effective, and it keeps us at the forefront of the wellness revolution in our patients' eyes. For more information, click on the following links. The first is a link to the conference call I did last night with Dr. Anne Bodak from Dallas, Texas. The second is to a web site that gives details on the e84 Challenge. And the third link is to a segment on the "Good Morning Texas" TV show in which Evolver and professional cyclist Geoff Godsey (who intends to break all of Lance Armstrong's records) promotes the e84 Challenge and the Evolv products to the show's staff. Guest guest
Take Shape For Life is not an MLM company. It is a Network Marketing company. No health coach is obligated to steer people towards Medifast. I did a little research on the food that Medifast uses and it is very similar to the Zone Diet, except that it is not as rigorous in protein portions for each meal. The zone diet insists on a certain amount of protein every four hours. Medifast allocates the protein over a 24-hour period; the purpose is the hormonal regulation as is the zone diet. It emphasizes fruits and vegetables as the primary source of carbohydrates. Proteins are the main drivers for controlling insulin spikes and turning off the " I am hungry " perception. So any diet that treats protein as the evil twin of saturated fats does not succeed over the long term- that is the reason why people can't keep their weight off with high carbohydrate diets. Just my $.02 worth. Eileen Machida, DC 503-893-0125
Guest guest
Ron: I noticed that, too. It's obvious that they want the State to promote their program, and I'm sure they're hoping the State will help to subsidize it as well. They have a good program that works for a lot of people, but as you mentioned, it's not cheap. And the only way their company can make money and pay their " coaches " is by selling the pre-packaged meals. At least with EvolvHealth, you can get a bare-bones yet effective weight-loss program for as low as $75 a month. It will be interesting to see what programs the State decides to endorse and how we'll all pay for it. Lyndon McGill, D.C.
