Thanks Tom,

That is great advice for me. I was just telling my husband last night that

the kids are learning to deal with different personalities. And that they are

learning compassion for others with disabilities by going through the

challenges of CMT life. UGH

,

Please let the school know that your kids have some difficulties that simply

" trying harder " cannot overcome. My parents were intimidated by the school

authority and did not inform them--this out of ignorance rather than

neglect. They too hoped things would improve if I " tried harder " . As a

result, I had to endure the abuse of a half-wit coach who taught Physical

Education. The idiot coach screamed at me nearly every day, but couldn't do

a pull-up on my best day or run worth a darn. I could, however, run

circles around " Coach " when it came to written material and verbal sparring.

I was an honor student and got even for his abuse by correcting his

deplorable grammar on written test questions. You can imagine what he

thought of my wise-guy attitude. This experience, among many others, made

high school a miserable time in my life. After high school I worked my butt

off the get through under-graduate and graduate degrees. I graduated with

honors and have been a successful professional for the last 30 years. I

guess the moral of the story here is, be careful how often and in what way

you rescue your kids. Life is not fair, never will be, and your kids have

to learn how to navigate in an unfair, competitive world. And as I look

back, " try harder " is not such bad advice. Good luck raising your kids, the

most challenging task imaginable.

I agree, call the ADA, and while you are at it, call the State Capital. Dont

let those morons get away with that. It's against the law. And when you are

done talking with those two, then call the Superintendent and advise him/her

what you learned. Big changes will be made, I guarantee.

And while I sit here in disbelief on these postings of schools, I can only

say, thank god I didn't have to attend these schools.

Make an appointment with MDA. Have your doctor write a letter to the school

informing them that your child can not participate in what ever physical ed

class that they are having trouble with. They can place a child in art, music

or some other class while gym is going on.

GOOD LUCK

Elaine

And thank goodness I went to school in Michigan
