Guest guest
Welcome Kathy, thanks for your introduction. Since CMT 1A is in your family - 1A is Autosomal Dominant - yes, you have a 50/50 chance of passing this to your offspring; however this is NOT the same as the incidence rate, for which there are no odds or statistics. No one can predict the future; it is impossible to say what to expect in the future. With Pre-Implanation and Pre-Natal testing, plus genetic engineering, nerve regeneration factors (like NT-3) or other tested hypotheses, like ascorbic acid allievating CMT 1A, so much is possible. As for one's own future, that too is impossible to predict by anyone. What's in your individual code as far as genotype will determine how you are affected. For years I had doctors " predict " my future - they were no better than the fortune tellers on the pier. When I was 27, one doctor told me I'd be wheelchair bound by the time I was 30. Age 30 came and went, I continued with my life, careers, travel, adventures, and now it's been another 22 years since 30 and I'm still at it - about as far away from being wheelchair bound as I am from the moon. Again, welcome, and I hope you find helpful in understanding CMT. Gretchen
