Guest guest
I am not Sally, but my guess is that night wear of the AFOs is to keep the feet from growing into a deformed shape and/or to keep heel chords stretched. I wore splints to sleep in as a young child to keep my feet from growing into a " C " shape and it worked. I wore metal braces in the daytime with hightop supportive shoes. Sounds to me that Gavin has a doctor that realizes young growing bones can be trained to grow straight just as a twig can be trained to grow into any desired shape or teeth can be straightened with braces and retainers. I think his doctor is on the right track and seems to have " common sense " . I wish the best for Gavin. Ruth
Guest guest
I wore my metal braces at night too, I also had the high tops. It was either wear the braces or wear a dennis browne splint which is a bar that attaches to a pair of shoes to hold your legs and feet in a certain position. It was much easier to wear the braces so I did, for a year I think. My dr had me do this for problems I had with my gait, my feet turned in real bad. Don't think that is related to the CMT. I hear that dennis browne splints and wearing braces at night is coming back as a therapy that is used. These things go in and out of fashion I guess. Sounds like Gavin has a good dr.
