What part of WA are you from? and I like to visit the San 's and

the area around Seattle, as well as the Columbia River area. Maybe we

could put together a trip to the area at the same time as one of the

meetings and really blow the RNY folk away. LOL

I already attended a RNY support group meeting in WI and the bariatric

coordinator for the surgeon helped pass out the information pamphlets from

Dr. K.'s office that I took back wth me. They were impressed but WI has

some type of prohibition against the DS being performed within the state.

I guess there is a fight developing to allow patients the right to select

which procedure they feel is appropriate and the surgeons will have the

authority to do any they are trained to do.

We may pull that state out of the " dark ages " yet. LOL

I agree the picture used on the duodenalswitch website is not

the greatest...lol...it is also the pic on the front of our binders

and on our Dr. K DS cards. When I show that picture I always start

out by saying " this isn't the best example of the ds but you can get

the idea " I like the one at gr-ds.com much better also...it

depicts the duodenum better as well as the " banana " shaped stomach.

Looks like a few of us are going to have to go to WA and kick some

RNY butt! lol...wish I could...But I want you to " politely " keep

this in the back of your mind when you are arguing with a

RNYer....they picked the RNY...You picked the DS...That

automatically makes you smarter, so stand your ground!

teehehehehehe

Jerry,

This prohibition must have been lifted. In my recent research--

given what's happened in my CA$H situation with coming to Delano--I

have found out there are several doctor's now performing the DS in

Wisconsin. Dr. Starling out of Madison and Dr. Quinn out of

Milwaukee, and my RNY surgeon, Dr. Kuehner, in Marshfield. Dr. Quinn

trained with Dr. Gagner in NYC. Still trying to find out more about

her. Anyways, just figured I'd share that being as you posted the

above.

Hugs,

Laurie

Hi everyone,

I'm putting this post out here not only for opinions and suggestions

but I think also for enlightenment. I have been thinking lately that

I should inform my employer about this condition that now affects my

life daily. But I have also read so many posts (not necessarily from

this group)that employers shouldn't and don't have to be told about

CMT. I feel I should tell my employer " just in case " . Just in case

someone sees me in the hall " staggering " and thinks I am intoxicated,

or " just in case " I park in a spot closer to work that might have been

someone else's. Those kind of things. I've read posts about

employers treating you differently when they know, etc. I've also

read CMTer's not wanting to tell anyone until they absolutely have to.

I don't have any fear in telling my employer because it really is the

best place I've ever worked. But there is still that little voice

saying don't do it. I would like to know if anyone has told their

employers and if they were all of a sudden treated differently. And

also, my way of thinking is why wouldn't we want to tell everyone who

will listen? I mean if we want awareness isn't that the best way? By

telling everyone? Why do so many want to hide the fact that they have

CMT? Is it because they don't want to feel like they are being

treated differently or felt sorry for. I don't think anyone would

feel sorry for me. I let myself feel the way I want to feel. Please

let me say that I mean no disrespect in this post. This is a sincere,

honest attempt to gain knowledge and learn from others views. Thanks

all.
