Guest guest
The January 2005 CMT Clinic at Wayne State University newsletter indicated " It is no longer necessary to do nerve biopsies for diagnosing CMT...We have recently developed a method to look at nerves using skin biopsies...by taking 2-4 tiny pieces of skin (less than the size of a pencil eraser) usually from the fingers... Guest guest
wrote, " I never let anyone biopsy my nerves. I could never see the reason for it. " , there ARE reasons that a nerve biopsy has to be done - at least there was for me 2 1/12 years ago. Believe me, my doctors at Mayo Clinic recommended the procedure as a very last resort. It wasn't something they wanted to do, but is was necessary to rule out CMT, among other things in my case. I trusted my doctors and I was at one of the best clinics in the world. Of course, as patients, we always have the right to say no when it comes to having medical procedures done. But what's right for one may not be right for another. As I stated before, without having the procedure done, my diagnosis would never have been made. I have no regrets, and at least now I know what I'm dealing with. K. Guest guest
Spy, A nerve biopsy is a diagnostic procedure. It's not supposed to help your symptoms or illness, it's to help the doctors figure out what's wrong with you. K.
