Here's a NASA International Space Station video of the bridging of the Aurorea Borealis lights from the North Pole of Earth with the Aurora Austraiis lights of the South Pole, encircling the Earth. These charged particles that generate the Auroras originate in the Magnetosphere and solar wind and, on Earth, are directed by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere.
