They can make AFOs out of metal. That was the traditional way to make

braces. They attach to the heels of your shoes. There is no plastic in your shoe

to be uncomfortable, and they are much more comfortable in warmer weather. They

don't stick to your skin either. Your orthotist should be able to make you some.

Some orthotists are a little lazy and like making plastic braces. I think the

metal braces are much more comfortable and I have both types.
