Guest guest
Dear Oregon Chiropractors: I am looking for a recommendation for a neurologist for a mid-30’s female patient who is postoperative for a C2-C3, 2-cm x 6-cm neurofibroma within her spinal cord. She also had the benefit of having a C5-C6 and C6-C7 disc bulge with the C6-C7 creating severe paracentral canal narrowing. The patient has global complaints of upper extremity numbness and tingling, occasional lower extremity numbness and tingling, left low back and torso pain, and right upper back and neck pain. We have been treating her fairly aggressively and have achieved significant results, however, she is looking to make a change in her overseeing neurologist to help her in managing her ongoing care. I would appreciate any recommendations you may offer. The patient does live in the rural west side of Portland. Guest guest
Ted, As the years go by, I am becoming less and less impressed with the case management by neurologists. It usually ends up being drug management while the patient degenerates. Have never seen a recommendation of i.e. Balance and coordination training to re-establish proprioceptive patterns and inhibit pain through movement (along with necessary drugs). If you need someone to share the “responsibility”, that’s another thing. A neurosurgeon be a valid option? How about our neurology diplomate smart guy chiropractors? (Do they manage recovery or assess current status?) Please apprise us of where this woman ends up and how it goes. -- E. Abrahamson, D.C.
