Guest guest
Gretchen- I'm glad I read the posts today because I would love to collaborate with you on an aquatic exercise program for CMT problems. I did a presentation on the subject last summer and have been PlANNING TO REDO IT IN A MORE PROFESSIONAL form. Actually my sixteen year old son who takes TV production in school filmed the first one for me and plans to do the second version. So we'll definitely talk about that. Thanks for thinking of me. But today I'm writing because of two reasons. #1I walked into a patio door a couple nights ago at full force and I basically richocheed off the glass and ended on the other side of the patio,on the floor for about twenty five minutes before I could move. My head and neck and thoracic outlet was immediately terribly painful. I ended up eventually going to the ER where they gave me 2 shots, said it was a neck strain (which I knew) and told me to see an orthopedist. I'm in County Florida and my Aetna HMO is very limitted. I'm wondering if there are any people reading from South Florida who have had good experiences with any of the orthopedisrts. Of course I want someone who understands CMT also. The problem that preceded this is that I had neuroma surgery on both feet in December and I am still having very bad pain oin both feet. I honestly can barely walk. The podiatrist wants me to get custom orthotics but they must be both soft, accomodating and waterproof. I now need them everytime my feet touch the bottom of the pool. My feet were burning terribly so I have been using net clogs from Merrill with an extra cushion and an extra arch support in them. It's much better than nothing but I do need the custom orthotics. I've searched online and nothing is turning up. Anyone know where I should look next? I am relating to much of what I read about how it feels to not be able to do what you want because of severe pain and also the family issues. Can't write any more about that issue right now--- Last of all, I am thinking ahead about if I will coach this year, Coaching swimming is my first love. But I realized last year that I actually need a scooter to get around on deck. I have a few issues about that.! I don't have one and don't know how I can afford it. 2)As an occupational therapist I help my patients get used to the idea of utilizing adaptive equipment but using something obvious like a scooter remains a bit of an emotional barrier for me. However, I know that if I can find a way to get one it would make life easier for me. So if there's anyone in SFlorida who knows of orthopedists, neurologists, or physiatrists that are good with CMT please let ne know as soon as possible. Of course being on my Aetna HMO list would be best but any leads regarding doctors or the orthotics would be much appreciated. Would you also alert me by email if you know something? Thank you everyone. Deni Gillespie swimrx@...
