Guest guest
, Your insurance company is out of line for telling you to use any doctor. Insurance companies do not recommend doctors. In the meantime, yes, you absolutely need a orthopedic surgeon who has experience with the exact surgery your son will have, and hopefully one who has CMT experience also. Meanwhile you've got 2 opinions - were those NOT from orthopedists? Those orthopedists, even if they do not do surgery (most do) should recommend someone to you. Perhaps a couple of doctors. Ask the question to the recommending doctor " If your son needed this surgery who would you recommend " ? This is because when the tables are turned, they might not recommend their colleague, but someone even better. If your 2 opinions were from Neurologists - scrap them and get 2 more from orthopedists. I'm not sure what kind of surgery your son will have. My foot surgery was done in late summmer one year, thus still allowing our family to have a vacation, for me to still go to camp, and be totally healed and walking by the time school started in September. If I can be of more help, please email me directly. If you have names of doctors, I can check out their background for you, and/or hopefully give you some more information. ~ Gretchen
