Anise Medicinal Benefits:

The Anise plant or otherwise known as the star anise and botanically

called as Pimpinella Anisum, originated from Egypt, Mediterraninan

countries and now it is grown and found in Central America, Asia and in

other countries for its medicinal benefits and culinary uses. Anise

plant flowers and oil is widely used in traditional medicine and even in

cooking since ancient times for the treatment of various health

problems. The Anise plant generally grows to the height of two feet and

the flowering season is from July, produces umbeliform white colored

flowers, and ripened seeds are taken out for medicinal use, which are

three to four mm in size, curved and oblong shaped and brown in color.

The Star Anise plant seeds are sweet, delicate with aromatic liquorice

flavor, due to the presence of phytochemical substance, anethol. The

nutritional profie of Anise plant comprises of Vitamins such as folates,

thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, Vitamin C,

Vitamin A, and minerals like potassium, sodium, selenium, magnesium,

proteins, carbohydrates, fats, dietary fiber with zero cholesterol and

The active ingredients such as anethole present in the volatile oil of

are limonene, camphene, transantethol, acetoanisol, safrol, linalool,

beta-pinene, estragol, acetophenone, p-anisaldehyde also found, which

prevent many health disorders. Anise seed oil is extracted from the

seeds posses anti spasmodic, antiseptic, stomachic, carminative,
