Guest guest
, I am taking 250 mg. a day. I take it in a capsule that has Alpha Lipoic Acid, 250 mg; CoQ10 200 mg; and Acetyl L-Carnitine 350 mg. I used to take just the Alpha Lipoic Acid, 300 mg; but read up on the other two ingredients in this capsule and what I read I liked so I asked my primary Dr. if it could hurt and he said " no " so I take this one capsule a day with all 3 ingredients. Maybe it is the other two that help also, I don't know. I only know I don't fall like I used to. June
Guest guest
June: What is the name/brand of the CoZ@, Alpha Lipoic Acic and L-Carnitidine supplement you take? Or, where do you get it? I take Co Q10 and L-Carnitidine and am thinking of trying Alpha Lipoic Acid; however, I already take so many different pills every day (I take Vit C and B complex too) that it would be GREAT to find one that is a combo of these three. Please advise as to the brand, supplement name and/or where you get it. Thanks. Marti
Guest guest
Marti, The supplement I take I purchased from Vitacost on their website. It is the NS brand name - Nutriceutical Science Institute. There are 60 capsules in the bottle. I take one a day. From what I have read about L Carnitane and CQ10 I believe all three, including the Alpha Lipoic Acid, are a help for the neuropathy in my legs. Good luck. June
Guest guest
Marti: I saw your email to June regarding the supplements and wishing there was a combo. I have recently started taking the same three supplements that you mentioned, and I wanted to let you know that there is one combination product I have found (although I am not currently using it). My wife and I are vacationing along the Orange County, California coast and stopped in at a " Vitamin World " to pick up some items we forgot to take with us. Have no idea of how their quality compares with the more expensive brands that I bought on the recommendation of my local health food store. However, their prices were reasonable and they did have a combination of Alpha Lipoic Acid and L- Carnitidine. Ken
Guest guest
Dear friends, Does anyone out there taking ALA please? I would love to know if really helps with pain and disconmfort. Thanks a lot everyone! Joana
Guest guest
I have been on 200mg of ALA a day for over a year. I feel it has helped lessen the pain in my feet tremendously. I tried life without it just to see if it worked and after two months I was glad to get on ALA again. Cathleen in Arkansas
Guest guest
I have been taking Alpha Lipoic Acid for about two years now, ever since my neurologist recommended it. I currently take 250 mg. daily. This is in a capsule which also contains 200 mg. CoQ10 and 250 mg. Acetyl L-Carnitine. I started out with only the ALA but switched to the combination capsule after reading of the benefits of the CoQ10 and the ALC. Maybe it is just my imagination, but I do notice a difference in my balance problems. I haven't fallen in the last two years and before that I was taking some pretty bad spills (but no broken bones) - my one foot would drag and I would trip. This could be due to the ALA as I take no other remedy/help for the CMT - only vitamin C, D & E and a multivitamin. I still have the tingling and numbness, the fatigue, the inability to rise onto my toes or even to move my toes. Anyway, I do believe it has helped some. Guest guest
June, I had a look at vitacost web site and yes, they do have ALA, but on its own. I understood you take it a special formula with those combination of ALA+ L Carnitine + Q10.9 (all together in one formula) I am right or not? Well, I could take it separeted, but it would be good idea to have those in a capsule. I will have a look here in UK as well! Thanks Again! Guest guest
Joana, I am in the southern tip of Northeast Pennsylvania - in a little county named " Schuylkill " (American Indian (ee) for " Hidden River " ). Our town sits in a valley in the Applachian Mtn. range. Quite beautiful here - especially this time of year. Small town - about 6000. I work as a bookkeeper etc. for a local newspaper - still working at 70 years of age. Hope you are having a good day. June
Guest guest
i would have to say that there are absolutely no contra-indications as far as pharmaceutical meds. it is only an anti-oxidant. however, there have been numerous studies on taking 1200mg broken up throughout the day for ms. i have taken it for years 300x4 or 600x2. Now there is some suggestion that r-lipoic is the more utilized form and you need much less of that in terms of mgs. good luck to you. i have no doubt of its value to me. it is part of my arsenal to keep as healthy as possible. diabetes, ms, heart, aging, it is good prevention for allthese things. kathy [low dose naltrexone] alpha lipoic acid How much alpha lipoic acid should one take per day, and is any brand better than others? Is there any other supplement or medication with which it should not be taken?
