Guest guest
Uh oh. I have been eating peanut butter, which I figured was mostly safe. I guess it's a bad choice. I have been eating a lot of walnuts though. I eat peanut butter and jelly (with no sugar added) as a snack. Is there a type of peanut butter substitute that you know of that is healthy? Guest guest
That's fascinating. Anyway, for nuts, focus on macadamia nuts and chestnuts. The rest are net negative in terms of health benefits IMO. Guest guest
I haven't had chestnuts for years. Love'em though. I have read a lot of reports touting the health benefits of walnuts. I'll have to dig through those again. Thanks for your input. On Sat, Mar 17, 2012 at 12:14 PM, <hjooste@...> wrote: > That's fascinating. > > Anyway, for nuts, focus on macadamia nuts and chestnuts. Guest guest
I like it. I have been eating Smart Balance peanut butter with some blueberry jelly from the health food store. The Blueberry jelly is really good. The best I have had. It has a whole bunch of little whole blueberries in it. That is a snack for me, instead of cookies and ice cream these days. But I will be rethinking all of that. I am just trying to gradually shift to a moderate CR diet. But it will take me a while to figure out how to do it properly. I do know about the Cronometer but I have not bought any scales yet. On Sat, Mar 17, 2012 at 11:55 AM, Kirk McLoren <kirkmcloren@...>wrote: > ** > > > my cousin eats peanut butter daily. Guest guest
i've read somewhere that organic peanut butter might contain even more aflatoxin than from a regular store. Instead of blueberry jelly you can get healthier stuff- frozen *wild* blueberries from Trader Joe's. Whole Foods also sell frozen *wild* blueberries, but more expensive. ________________________________ From: Chuck <chuckfrasher@...> Longevity Sent: Saturday, March 17, 2012 3:26 PM Subject: Re: Peanuts Health Benefits I like it. Guest guest
I've tried to switch from peanut butter to macadamia nut butter, its not a bad substitute, but to be honest nothing beats the taste of peanut butter. Its just something you have to learn to deny yourself as much as possible, or have in really small doses. Guest guest
I suppose you could examine the peanuts to make sure ALL of them are good and grind it yourself. The Ninja blender at Costco is much more powerful than the average blender, like a Vita Mix, but around $100 with 2 containers. -- He must be cut off from the past. . . because it is necessary for him to believe that he is better off than his ancestors and that the average level of material comfort is constantly rising. -- Orwell, 1984 ________________________________ From: " hjooste@... Guest guest
Peanuts are high in MUFA's. Best to NOT avoid. It is true that peanuts MAY be contaminated with the mold Aspergillus flavus which produces a carcinogenic substance called aflatoxin. If one's peanut come from a reliable source, then the benefits from eating peanut far outweigh the very minimal risks. See - " Peanut Consumption Improves Indices of Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Healthy Adults " - http://www.jacn.org/content/22/2/133.full > > Peanuts are high in PUFAs and contain a known carcinogen. > > Best to avoid. Guest guest
Peanuts have a bad fatty acid profile. Yes they are high in MUFA, but they are 16 per cent PUFA. That makes them off limits in my book. Get your mUFAs elsewhere. Peanuts are high in anti-nutrients, lectins and of course aflatoxin. I don't care who grew them. They cause allergies as well. They're not even nuts, they're legumes. Re: Peanuts Health Benefits Peanuts are high in MUFA's. Best to NOT avoid. Guest guest
Aflatoxins are also present in various CONTAMINATED foods including walnuts and other tree nuts - http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodSafety/FoodborneIllness/FoodborneIllnessFoodbornePat\ hogensNaturalToxins/BadBugBook/ucm071020.htm It is not so much who grew them, but perhaps more importantly, how they were processed and stored afterwards (leading to the contamination). Does anyone have a reference that indicates that ROASTED peanuts are high in anti-nutrients? Although some people may be sensitive to peanuts, the cause of this sensitivity is unknown. Eating peanuts does not cause the allergy; some theorize that limiting exposure to peanuts may actually cause the allergy. > > > > Peanuts are high in PUFAs and contain a known carcinogen. > > > > Best to avoid. > > > > > >

Guest guest
I believe peanut allergy is due to using peanut oil as an adjuvant in vaccines. Injecting oil is quite different from eating it. When I was a youngster peanut butter was a staple in the school cafeteria. Now they tell you dont pack peanut butter in your childs lunch lest they share. Progress, isn't it great? -- He must be cut off from the past. . . because it is necessary for him to believe that he is better off than his ancestors and that the average level of material comfort is constantly rising. -- Orwell, 1984 ________________________________ From: Eliot <ewcollins@...> Longevity Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2012 9:38 AM Subject: Re: Peanuts Health Benefits Aflatoxins are also present in various CONTAMINATED foods including walnuts and other tree nuts -Â http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodSafety/FoodborneIllness/FoodborneIllnessFoodbornePat\ hogensNaturalToxins/BadBugBook/ucm071020.htm It is not so much who grew them, but perhaps more importantly, how they were processed and stored afterwards (leading to the contamination). Guest guest
I recently read that in Europe they are more concerned about celery allergy than peanut allergy. I often put peanut butter on my celery. > > I believe peanut allergy is due to using peanut oil as an adjuvant in vaccines.
