No Cavities for 59 1/2 Years

I went to the dentist last Friday for my semi-annual checkup and cleaning. Once

again I had no cavities, and after 59 1/2 years, my teeth are still perfect.

Was it luck? We make our own luck.

Was it heredity? When my Dad died he was younger than I am now. His teeth were

not perfect.

Was it fluoridated water? I only drank non-fluoridated well water until I was

18.

Was it diet? Although I avoid sugar, I do eat a great deal of fresh fruit.

what's your point Eliot? not luck, not heredity, not fluoride, not diet, then

what is it? Brushing twice a day?

When I tell people that I have never had a cavity, the first thing that they say

is, " You must be very lucky " . Then they say, " You must have good genes " .

My point is that we make our own luck.

For at least the last 40 years I have brushed thoroughly twice a day and flossed

every day, without fail. It takes a few minutes to do, but it is worth it.

I also go to the dentist for a professional cleaning twice a year, again,

without fail.
