I had a patient today tell me that she was contacted by Cigna and given some type of 'back pain packet'.A representative called her and told her a nurse could work with her on her back pain and that "not many people go to chiropractors". Evidently the conversation was very derogatory towards chiropractors.I asked her to write a letter explaining exactly what had happened. Where should I send such a complaint letter? OBCE?Thanks.Brad Farra, D.C., CCSPCertified Chiropractic Sports PhysicianGlow Healthcare Integrative Medicine2332 NW Irving St.Portland, OR 97210503-222-1865www.drbradfarra.com

Unbelievable. Make sure she gets the person’s name and credentials that gave her that incredibly ridiculous and potentially harmful information. Report to Insurance Commission as well as to the ignorant representative’s superior.

Brad:

As I stated in a post some time ago, everything is moving toward a

medical home model with a gatekeeper/overseer (most likely a RN or

PA) who will have the authority to steer patients through the

"system." The national associations (Vern!) should be hot on this,

since it's a new way for the medical profession to steer our

patients away from us. The overseer will simply send the patient to

PT, etc., first, leaving us as the last resort. Which, I guess,

isn't exactly a new position for us.

Colleagues, Chiropractic physicians can and will be the gatekeepers for those who are willing to practice as primary care physicians, first contact portal of entry physician types.  Further, we have gotten very key non-discrimination language inserted into Senate Bill 1580 which hopefully we be passed out of the House and on to the Governor’s desk.  Further, the non-discrimination language which the ACA was able to get into the Federal ACA healthcare bill will not allow the Oregon Insurance Exchange to discriminate against us either.  In fact thanks to the work of the ACA and Section 2706 the non-discrimination section which Oregon must adhere to the chiropractic profession here in Oregon will have insurance equality for the first time in our history…yes Dr. McGill I am hot on it…we as a profession are red hot and rolling with more wins to come…. Hi Vern, Should we be reading something into " those who are willing to

practice as primary care physicians... " . I was under the impression we were

portAl of entry physicans already. Is something changing?
