Guest guest
Barb, When I fall, it can 'jar' my entire body, triggering all nerve-pain receptors. Depending on the intensity of the fall, and where it occurred - like did I just trip and fall forward on my knees and they landed hard, but on the carpet; or was the fall one in a backwards motion where I fell on my rear end, or where my back and spine were involved and if that was on a soft area (like carpet or grass) or on hard cement or a patio or wood floor. There are so many falls and they affect us differently. After falling, I immediately stop what I was doing, assess my physical self, and if needed grab an ice pack and some Naprosyn or Arnica. This will stop the nerve pain triggers from overworking from the fall. Then rest. I fell so much more in my teens than I do now. Then it was almost a daily occurance. Now, my falls are so infrequent, maybe two a year. I attribute this to my exercise and balance program I do in aquatics, plus my biking and walking. Over the years Physical Therapists have been really helpful in teaching me " how to fall " so I won't do severe damage or break anything. I think this is why I always emerged unscathed from a fall - except maybe with a skinned knee. The strengthening of muscles in aquatics has really been helpful to me also. Guest guest
Gretchen, I can truly relate to the falling. I fell on the carpet and jared my whole body. Nothing broken, thank goodness. I could hardly walk for a week after. Possibly being 57 had a little to do with it also. I am recovering from yet another foot surgery and hopefully will be back in two shoes soon ! Have cane will travel is my motto !!! ... Fla.
