Guest guest
My brother is 43 and is experiencing foot pain-pain in the arch, the heel, and in the back of the foot and ankle where the sural nerve is. I told him to go to the MDA clinic at the U of Penn where most of our family was diagnosed but instead he called my mom's neurologist who specializes in alzheimers. My brother was seen at the MDA ten years ago along with other family members and the doc, Fichbeck one of the experts in CMT did not think he had it based on his exam and history. So this neurologist did an exam and said he thought there was something wrong and that it could be CMT. He is sending my brother for bloodwork but he told him that if that isn't conclusive he'll have to do a spinal tap! This makes no sense to me. Has anyone ever heard of this? I want my brother to get to a neurologist who sees plenty of CMT to get a diagnosis. Does anyone have a doctor in the Philly area to recommend? Do you know who is at the MDA clinic at the U of P these days? Thanks very much. Deni
Guest guest
Deni, Last week I posted 2 docs names up for - in the Pittsburg area. They are both medical advisors to the Neuropathy Association and know CMT. Go back in the posts a week or so to find the message. About the spinal tap - it is just another diagnostic tool used to assess the prescence or non-prescence of many neurological and neuromuscular disorders. I had one some years ago. ~ Gretchen
