Rehabilitation management of peripheral neuropathy.

GT.

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington, School

of Medicine, Seattle, Washington.

The goals of rehabilitation for patients with peripheral neuropathy are

to maximize and prolong independent and safe locomotion and function,

inhibit physical deformity, and provide access to full integration into

society. The services of multiple disciplines are required to fully

achieve these goals and include physicians, nurses, therapists,

orthotists, social and vocational counselors, and psychologists.

Treatment is goal-oriented, using various modalities including

exercise, bracing, adaptive equipment, medication, and surgery.
