CMT involves the Peripheral Nervous System and Parkinson's involves the

Central Nervous System. The PNS includes all the nerves EXCEPT the spinal

cord and brain (CNS). They are separate systems. I do know of some CMTers who

also have PD (Parkinson's Disease), or MS (Multiple Sclerosis), but that

means their entire nervous system is affected. It is quite rare. I have

heard of families that have CMT in some members and MS in others, too.

There is some thought that some families may be prone to certain weaknesses,

such as neurological diseases, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and so

forth. I don't think any connection between CMT and PD has been found at this

time. I have heard of families that have CMT in some members and MS in

others, too.

We are all susceptible to any of the diseases common to humans, in spite of

already having CMT.

I have CMT, but no one in my family has it. I have no siblings, but 43 first

cousins and I also have two children who are both in their 20s. None of them

have it that I know of.

However, there is quite a number of family members who have had

Parkinsons(late onset)disease on my dad's side of the family.

Has anyone ever heard of any link between Parkinson's and CMT?
