Guest guest
Hello everyone, Having recently been diagnosed, I am interested in understanding any food and supplement tips you might have picked up to manage CMT - and its impact on our nerves. Any advice or pointers appreciated. Today I added a nutritionist to my list of specialists and people I am seeing to try to build a " whole body " approach to management. If I learn anything new, I will keep you all posted. Thanks, Donna from London
Guest guest
Donna, A few weeks or so ago Dr. Greg (CMT doctor in Washington State) suggested to us that CMT persons follow a 'heart healthy' diet and 'stay slim'. As for myself, I eat low fat, low cholesteral, and low carb. Don't laugh, I do get enough to eat and it is all good stuff. I have found that eating smaller portions is key and also I eat these 5 times a day. I eat alot of vegetables, fruit, also chicken and fish. I do not eat beef or pork, nor indulge in sugary foods, or anything that has been commercially canned, 'junk foods', 'fast foods' or alcohol. My Internist also suggested I include a Vitamin E supplement everyday, which I have taken for about 8 or 9 years now. In the past, I have sometimes become Potassium deficient - happened in high school and more recently while hospitalized after back surgery. In both cases I was given daily doses of prescription strength potassium. Food, healthy eating and exercise go hand in hand for me in managing my CMT.
