Guest guest
Laurie, I have hammertoes, but no pain and blankets don't bother me. But this could be due to any of the following: 1) stretching my foot/toes daily 2) orthotics in my shoes cause my toes to lie flat/straight 3) shoes with a wider toe box (like New Balance) 4) changing shoes often 5) having no sensory problems with my feet 6) not wearing socks at all 7) spending time each day barefoot ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Gretchen, You're very lucky that you don't have problem/s with your toes. Aside from what you've mentioned,(see what Gretchen wrote) the ff: have been mentioned: Avoid shoes w/ pointed toes; laced shoes are roomier and adjustable; select comfortable athletic shoes w/ cushioned insoles; avoid vinyl plastic shoes since they don't breathe when your feet perspire. Buy shoes at midday since feet are smaller in the am swell throughout the day ask for just the right fit. Also to Gretchen...what kind of orthotics are you wearing in your shoes? Any comment/s from the rest? Nilo, my son can benefit from any suggestion. Thanks, Tessie
Guest guest
Hi Amy, This is caused by distal muscle atrophy mostly. Good supportive shoes with a wide toe box area may be of help, also I find that nightly foot massages which not only massage the metatarsal pads, but also gently stretch out each toe is really helpful. My toes look and feel straighter in the morning after a good night's rest. Hard to say if anything can stop it, but the shoes, maybe even orthotics may help align the toes more like mine do. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Amy, Mine were doing the same thing until I was fitted for shoes. Turns out my shoes were a size too small. Since I've started wearing a larger shoe size, my toes have straightened out. Might be worth checking... Tonya
