I'm glad 's surgery was a success. I hope that her recovery is

very speedy and that she gets to go home soon.

Could you please email me and tell what they did and How Bad it was.

I want the truth, so I know exactly what to expect from day 1 to the

time you went home. I just do not know what they do in these newer

operations.

Hey Everyone,

Elaina's comments about surgery prompted me to respond since her feet sound

very much like mine. I just returned from an appointment with my surgeon

following major reconstructive surgery on my right foot 6 weeks ago. He

fused my ankle, straightened my big toe, " released " my Achilles' tendon, and

flattened my arch--lots of surgery. The initial results are very promising.

I am starting to walk again with 25% of body weight and the walker. Within

4 weeks I will be 100% of body weight and will use crutches for balance.

Eventually only a cane for balance. Amazingly, I am completely without pain.

I can hardly believe it. Surgery was recommended years ago, but I had to be

psychologically ready and I was not. Prior to surgery, I had lots of pain

for years and for the last year was taking hydrocodone or oxycodone as

needed, usually once a day, and an occasional gin martini. I took pain meds

for a few days following surgery, but have taken oxycodone maybe 3 times in

the past month--only 1/2 a pill when I had some aches keeping me awake. I

have only had 2-3 drinks since my surgery. I feel better than I have in

years. In a few months I will have my other foot done, but it is in better

shape than my right foot, so the procedure will not be as extensive. I'm

looking forward to a continued rapid recovery. By the way, I am 58 and

looking forward to my 60th birthday when I will have 2 functional feet and

will retire too. Being off work for these few weeks has given me a taste of

retirement and I like it!! Good luck in your decision about surgery. If

you decide to do it, find the very best surgeon you can. I did and am

delighted with the results.

Tom
