Guest guest
Hi , I am having the plantar fascia surgery on the right foot in two weeks. I believe some nerve endings will be cauterized as well. I had this surgery on my left foot about 10-15 years ago and really have not had pain in that foot. Of course both feet were doing good until about a year ago and all of a sudden my right foot really started hurting. After EMG's which confirmed the CMT diagnosis and physical therapy to help with the arch pain, this is my next step. For a year I haven't been able to walk for more than 10 minutes at a time. I tried walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes and found I couldn't move for the next 3 days. So I'm hoping that this surgery will get rid of some pain so I can take good walks again. I can deal with the numbness as I've had that for as long as I can remember. The fatigue I'm learning to deal with slowly. But I think if I can get out and do more without being down for the count for a week after I would begin to feel better all around. I've thought about a cane but I honestly don't feel like I'm at the stage where I need it. I rarely go anywhere where I don't know the layout of the building or property. Of course I'm beginning to see that sometimes CMT can progress fast and I'm waiting to see how my gait and balance are after the surgery. Thanks for your input. It's always appreciated. Guest guest
Elaina, I think I missed a previous post, but what surgery are you having that will enable you to go for walks again? Also, regarding not being able to walk in a straight line, you may find that using a cane and/or a rollator will help you with that. They are both good walking assistance devices. I personally think its dangerous not to use one if you're having trouble balancing when you're walking or just standing still. K.
