I put the orders into our EMR for electronic transmission to the

pharmacy, per protocol, with a cosign by my surgeon. We also have a

protocol where the dietitians " order " the supplements and our nurse

calls in the Rx.

When our RN is not here (vacations, etc.), I call the pharmacy after surgeon

signs the written order for patients who go elsewhere for prescription fills

(otherwise in EMR and I'm not involved). I checked with our Licensure Board

first to verify this was allowed.
