Hi Britni,

At my program we charge based on how many units I spend with them; 1 unit = $45 and 2 unit = $94. This would be for consults or supervised diets. We don’t

currently bill for post-op visits because it’s part of the program, but I would be interested to see if anyone does and what CPT codes they use for this. The nutrition counseling component is just a crucial if not the most important part of their success.

We are qualified medical professionals and our services should be seen as valuable. Do you have the support of your program on this?

Subject: Nutrition Fee Visit

I am interested to see how other programs deal with the cost for nutrition visits.

My program currently charges $50 for each nutrition visit. So if they require 3 or 6 months SWL these are the cost of each visit. I also do a separate class from that. Many patients complain about the cost of the visit, saying they can't afford it.

I wanted to see what other programs do and if they charge no fee how do they justify that and does it effect the RD's salary or need at the program? If you are working in the MD, VA, DC area I would be very interested in what your program does.

I want patients to see the importance of nutrition but at the same time I want them to have access to our services and maybe I could use these responses as justification of maybe a change in policy/procedure.

Any responses are very appreciated.

We bill $100.00 for a class, $125.00 for a 1:1 consultation. After the initial education its $15.00 per 15 minute increments. I will do wt checks for free - where they come in briefly to step on our scale to keep some accountability. I always believe they should be charged to use your time and knowledge. Every profession charges for their time.

Hi,

Here in India, and am a part of the best Private hospilal in Delhi, we donot charge any amount from the patients as it is part of the package. But I do definately feel that nutrition consultation should be done on chargable basis as it is one of the integral part of the managent of Bariatric patients. We spent 25-30mins per session with patients.
